Meridia is happy to partner with JDI in their search for a Chief Power Engineer to join their team in Chipman, New Brunswick.

Role Description

As the Chief Power Engineer, you are responsible for the leadership of a team of power engineers, operators, and maintenance personnel. You will provide guidance, training, and support to ensure the team operates efficiently and safely. You will participate in budget planning for power generation operations and maintenance. You will also develop contingency plans to respond to emergencies and minimize downtime. As well as identifying opportunities for process improvements and work with the team to implement changes.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Daily operation of biomass and oil-fired boilers
  • Care and maintenance of steam boilers and auxiliary plant operation
  • Daily operation and maintenance of lumber dry kilns
  • Lead, supervise and provide guidance and mentorship to staff to enhance their skills and knowledge.
  • Prepare and manage budgets, including expenses for maintenance, repairs, and equipment upgrades.
  • Monitor and maintain all equipment to prevent downtime and minimize energy waste.
  • Troubleshoot issues and implement corrective measures in case of outages or disruptions.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive maintenance schedule.
  • Supervise and coordinate maintenance and repair activities.
  • Ensure the sawmill complies with all relevant environmental and safety regulations.
  • Identify opportunities to improve energy efficiency and implement energy-saving initiatives to reduce operational costs.
Your Qualifications
  • Trade Certification or Associate\'s Degree.
  • Interprovincial First-Class Power Engineer License.
  • 7+ years experience in a high-pressure plant (steam) or similar industry.
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and analytical skills.
  • Strong leadership and management skills; The ability to supervise and direct the activities of others.
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Experience in drying lumber is an asset.
