We are currently considering candidates for the following position:

Chief Engineer

Responsible for the overall management and operations of the Engineering Department. In addition, is responsible for the overall supervision of staff. Other duties as required.

Responsibilities:

Hires, trains, counsels, and performance reviews.
Plans, coordinates, and implements preventive maintenance programs and energy conservation methods.
Troubleshoots operational problems of equipment, trades, etc....
Conducts routine room and property inspections.
Assigns and supervises Team Members.
Supervises and approves all contractual work in conjunction with the General Manager.
Maintains and controls fire alarm systems.
Performs fire evacuation drills as dictated by the National Fire Code of Canada.
Prepares schedules, payroll, capital, and operating budget.
Holds departmental meetings on a regular basis.
Prepares and submits monthly progress reports.
Is a member of the Emergency Brigade.
All reasonable tasks as required.

Skills:
Must have extensive knowledge of HVAC, building trades, mechanical-electrical equipment such as: refrigeration, kitchen equipment, laundry, plumbing, carpentry, etc.. Must also have the ability to troubleshoot mechanical and operational problems, counsel, train and direct staff; create preventive maintenance programs; set priorities, meet deadlines, work under pressure and communicate verbally and in writing.

Desirable Qualifications:
Three (3) to five (5) years institutional property maintenance experience in a management capacity. Background should include HVAC, Building Trades, Preventive Maintenance and Energy Conservation, or a combination of technical education and experience that provides the skills required for this position.
