We are currently hiring a Chief Engineer to join the team at our Goderich facility in Goderich, ON.



Compass Minerals' Goderich Plant has operated since 1867, after an unsuccessful search for oil uncovered a vast bed of rock salt under Goderich. Using mechanical evaporation, the plant produces high-purity, fine- and coarse-grained salt products in packages and in bulk for commercial, agricultural and industrial applications. The plant also packages rock salt from the mine that is used for deicing and water conditioning.



Goderich is named Canada's Prettiest Town and is best known for its stunning sunsets. Goderich is a lakeside community of 8,000 people located approximately 1.5 hours from London and Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario.


Summary:



Reporting to the Plant Manager, this position is primarily responsible for Project and Process Engineering and supervision the Boiler Evaporator Stationary Engineers at the Goderich Plant.


How will you contribute to the team?





To perform this role successfully, the candidate will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:


Maintains a safe and productive plant boiler and evaporation operation to meet the production goals of the site including but not limited to maintaining a preventative maintenance program for plant boiler/evaporation equipment utilizing manuals as well as PC based tools. Leads the maintenance/operator teams in performing diagnostic troubleshooting on all plant boiler/evaporation equipment. Monitors quality of repairs and functions of upgrades. Interprets production reports and their use in improving operations with emphasis on standard work. Interfaces with production management and process operators to determine the most effective ways to operate equipment to produce safe, quality tons. Purchases and maintains proper spare parts in inventory that will balance tying up capital with minimizing plant downtime. Interfaces with boiler chemical suppliers to ensure proper maintenance of boiler equipment. Identifies building and physical plant repair issues. Maintains schedule to maximize cleaning effectiveness of plant and machinery. Interfaces with process operators to allow repairs to be made to minimize impact on production. Controls energy costs through effective monitoring of machine performance and operation schedules. Maintains safety programs. Updates technical publication library (equipment, blueprints, schematics, etc.). Administers the Technical Safety ACT as it applies to the site. Supervises the brine well operation. Co-ordinates plant maintenance shutdowns. Ensures all Company standards, practices, and procedures are followed. Perform other related duties as required.

What should you bring to the role?



Must hold a valid 2nd or 3rd Class Power Engineer Certificate of Qualification or an engineering degree in mechanical, chemical, or industrial engineering Minimum of 5 years' experience working in an industrial manufacturing environment. Experience in operating facility power distribution, steam generation, vacuum system, compressed air systems, water systems, hydraulics and building maintenance. Experience supervising and directing a team and other resources to achieve results with specified timeframes. Control room experience - monitor complex processes and coordinate critical activities. Ability to read and interpret technical documents (blueprints, wiring diagrams, manuals, etc.) Ability to obtain and maintain proper licensing needed to legally operate specific plant machines (boiler license, etc.) Ability to interface with vendors and purchase parts in an effective manner, including cost-saving pricing and delivery Ability to obtain and maintain proper licensing needed to legally operate specific plant machines (boiler license, etc.) Project management skills

Monday-Friday 40-hour work week, onsite
