We are seeking a talented and passionate Chef to join our culinary team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in food preparation and cooking, with a focus on delivering exceptional dining experiences. As a Chef, you will be responsible for overseeing kitchen operations, managing staff, and ensuring the highest standards of food safety and quality are met. This role requires a blend of creativity, leadership, and culinary expertise.
Responsibilities
1. Food Preparation and Cooking:
o Daily food preparation and cooking, ensuring that dishes are prepared to the
highest standards of quality and taste.
o Maintain consistency in food presentation and flavour, adhering to established and provided menu, recipes and techniques.
2. Kitchen Management:
o Manage assigned kitchen assistants, including providing feedback on performance as needed.
o Ensure that the kitchen operates efficiently and effectively, adhering to
health and safety regulations.
3. Inventory and Ordering:
o Monitor inventory levels and order supplies as needed to ensure that the
kitchen is well-stocked with high-quality ingredients.
o Control food costs by minimizing waste and optimizing the use of ingredients.
4. Quality Control:
o Conduct regular inspections of food and kitchen equipment to ensure
cleanliness and proper functioning.
o Address and resolve any issues related to food quality or kitchen operations
and bring forward to kitchen manager as needed.
5. Customer Service:
o Engage with kitchen manager to gather feedback and address any concerns related to the culinary experience.
o Collaborate with kitchen manager and kitchen assistants to ensure smooth service and customer satisfaction.
6. Compliance:
o Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and sanitation regulations.
o Maintain accurate records of food safety practices, including temperature
logs and cleaning schedules.
Experience
Extensive industry knowledge and proven experience as a Chef or in a similar role within the food industry.
Strong background in food preparation, food safety, cooking techniques, and kitchen management.
Supervising experience with the ability to lead a diverse team effectively.
Knowledge of food safety standards and best practices in food handling.
Previous experience in hospitality is preferred, demonstrating excellent customer service skills.
Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
Strong leadership skills with the capability to inspire and motivate team members.
Kitchen experience that showcases creativity and passion for menu planning, execution and creating high-quality dishes.
Experience in high volume and large batch cooking.
Qualifications
A culinary degree or relevant certification is preferred.
Red Seal Journeyperson Cook Certification, with a related post-secondary degree (i.e., culinary arts, food science), will be considered an asset.
Advanced Food Safety Certification
Must pass a criminal background check and vulnerable sector check.
Physical Requirements
Ability to stand for long periods and perform physical tasks such as lifting and
carrying heavy items up to 50lbs.
Dexterity to handle kitchen tools and equipment effectively.
