Overview

We are seeking a knowledgeable and personable Cheese Monger to join our specialty food team. The ideal candidate will have a passion for cheese, excellent customer service skills, and a strong understanding of retail sales. This role involves engaging with customers, providing product recommendations, and maintaining an organized and inviting cheese display. Bilingual abilities and experience with merchandising or POS systems are highly valued to enhance the shopping experience for diverse clientele. The Cheese Monger will play a key role in educating customers about different cheeses and upselling products to maximize sales.

Responsibilities

Greet customers warmly and assist them in selecting cheeses based on their preferences and needs Provide detailed product demos and educate customers on cheese varieties, origins, and pairings Manage merchandising displays to ensure attractive presentation of cheese products Operate POS systems accurately for cash handling, sales transactions, and inventory management Upsell complementary products such as crackers, wines, or condiments to enhance customer experience Maintain cleanliness and organization of the cheese section, ensuring proper storage and labeling Handle customer inquiries via phone or in person with professionalism and excellent communication skills Assist with inventory management, including stock replenishment and product rotation Ensure compliance with food safety standards and store policies at all times

Experience

Previous retail sales experience, especially in specialty foods or gourmet products, is preferred Strong communication skills in English; bilingual abilities (e.g., Spanish, French) are a plus Experience with merchandising, POS systems, cashiering, and cash handling is desirable Demonstrated ability to upsell products effectively while maintaining excellent customer service skills Knowledge of cheese varieties, food pairing, and basic math skills for transactions is advantageous Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage time efficiently in a fast-paced environment Ability to engage customers through friendly phone etiquette and personalized service
