What is the opportunity?

The Senior Manager, Compliance RMFI provides compliance oversight, advice and monitoring with respect to mutual fund sales and financial planning activities conducted in one of two regions of RMFI. Oversight for the resolution and responses to RMFI regulatory complaints.

What will you do?

  • Responsible for managing the relationship with management and senior management in the region, including providing expert advice to the Regional Presidents, Regional Operating Officer and Regional Vice Presidents regarding: (i) regulatory complaints and their resolution, (ii) implementation of appropriate supervisory structures, (iii) application of all provinces securities laws, and rules of CIRO, and (iv) implementation of RMFI\xe2\x80\x99s policies and procedures regarding mutual fund sales and financial planning
  • Senior subject matter expert for advice to BCOs and senior management within the region.
  • Accountable for the oversight of client complaints in the region. This is an end-to-end process that not only includes managing the complaint resolution process, but also reporting to CIRO, addressing escalations to the RBC Appeals Office, OBSI, and specific provincial regulators. When dealing with client complaints, the incumbent provides consultations to the Compliance Managers on their team, which requires in-depth knowledge of relevant regulations as well as RMFI and RBC policies and procedures.
  • Promote the use of the RMFI Compliance Website and RMFI Connect to foster consistency in our communication and virtual training to the field.
  • Key reference point for assistance and feedback to the Chief Compliance Officer and other RMFI National Office compliance staff with respect to the application, development and amendment of national policies and procedures relating to mutual fund sales and financial planning.
  • Co-ordinates with the Chief Compliance Officer and other Sr. Manager Compliance to ensure consistent national interpretations of the mutual fund regulatory requirements and of RMFI policies and procedures.
  • Acts as RMFI\xe2\x80\x99s first level contact with the Securities Commissions, CIRO, and the RBC Appeals Office for inquiries about the conduct of licensed mutual fund sales reps. Assists in addressing regulatory matters specific to Quebec, including the AMF, Chambre, and CIFIQ, such as complaints, regulatory advocacy, surveys, audits, and enforcement matters.

What do you need to succeed?

Must-have
  • Must speak, read, and write French and English fluently.
  • 10+ years of experience in the financial and investments industry. Deep securities/mutual funds or other financial services experience, including but not limited to compliance.
  • Extensive knowledge of mutual funds, the mutual fund industry and financial planning either as a result of being licensed as a mutual fund dealer branch manager, investment dealer branch manager or head office mutual fund or financial planning sales support staff.
  • Be able to quickly develop a thorough understanding of the structure of the RBC Royal Bank \xe2\x80\x9cin-branch\xe2\x80\x9d and mobile sales forces and all RBC and RMFI policies, procedures and folios applicable to the sales forces.
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written) and organizational skills
  • Impact, influence, and skills/judgement to deal effectively with stakeholder SMEs
