Reporting to the Medical Imaging Manager, at Whitehorse General Hospital, the incumbent works collaboratively within the Medical Imaging department to improve patient flow and workflow by providing support, education and leadership to the staff of YHC and Yukon Community Nursing Health Facilities. The incumbent provides direct patient care as required, provides education and support for Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) and Radiology Information System (RIS), precepts Medical Imaging students and maintains the Quality Assurance (QA) Program for Medical Imaging at WGH.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Knowledge of professional practices as outlined by Medical Imaging professional association guidelines and policies
  • Knowledge of and proficiency in Medical Imaging procedures
  • Knowledge of Quality Assurance program
  • Knowledge of basic and cross sectional anatomy, physiology and pathology
  • Knowledge of digital imaging equipment (operates, troubleshoots and adjusts as required)
  • Knowledge of PACS and RIS
  • Knowledge of Radiation, Health and Safety Regulations
  • Ability to deal with situations in a professional manner
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with colleagues, peers, patients and families
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, adapt to workload variances and resolve work related problems
  • Ability to keep current with technology changes and aid in implementation of accepted change
  • Ability to teach other health care professionals
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; advocacy and assertiveness skills
  • Thoroughness and attention to detail
  • Reliability, self-motivation and ability to work independently with limited supervision
  • Cross-cultural awareness
  • Ability to provide acting coverage as required
The successful applicant will have certification from an accredited Medical Imaging Technology program, 3 - 5 years Medical Imaging experience, current registration with a Medical Imaging Professional Association (such as CAMRT/CSDMS) and current CPR certification. Desirable for this position would be leadership training/skills, Conflict Resolution and/or experience in Human Resource Management, Bachelor degree in Radiation Science or Bachelor of Technology degree in Medical Imaging, certification in PACS/Imaging Informatics Administration and a 2nd discipline with a Medical Imaging Professional Association (CAMRT/CSDMS).
