Duties:The Chair of the Carpentry Program will be responsible for the overall coordination of the Carpentry and Apprenticeship programs and will support faculty and students in this area. Special areas of responsibility will include:Administration, budgets and budget planning, FTE tracking, University and CE calendar preparation, advertising and publicity, student certificates, job postings, auxiliary appointments and appointment forms, chairing department meetings, conducting evaluation of support staff, timetabling, managing student intake and monitoring of students, managing referrals of students. Coordinating program evaluations, new program development, curriculum development and professional development activities. Participating in Applied Programs management, which includes being a member of institutional committees as required. Arranging work experience placements.Student contact, recruitment, interview and selection of prospective students, preparing student reports and monitoring student progress on an ongoing basis, handling student inquiries and interviews regarding the courses coordinated. Dealing with student performance contracts.Liaison with local industry, sponsoring agents, Advising, Counseling, Registration, and Financial Aid and insuring recording of grades, reports and certificates.Required Qualifications:A regular faculty member who is currently qualified to instruct in the program area and who has instructor training (e.g. Instructor Diploma) or program specific qualifications. Familiarity with, and demonstrated skills in teaching adults. High level of communication (written & verbal) and excellent interpersonal skills. Familiarity with Vancouver Island University programs, policies and procedures.
