with experience in computational wind engineering (CWE) for microclimate analyses in the urban environment. Knowledge and experience relating to snow loading on structures would be an asset.
Job Function
The wind scientist / engineer will provide wind engineering expertise through all stages of a project. This includes engineering work such as statistical analysis, simulation model preparation, meshing, simulations, results analysis, and technical report writing. Examples of typical studies a successful candidate would be responsible for:
Pedestrian level wind comfort
Falling snow and ice
Roof snow loading
Thermal comfort
Air quality (exhaust dispersion)
The role of the wind scientist / wind engineer includes, but is not limited to, the following responsibilities:
- Undertake CFD analyses required for projects, including:
Understanding, interpreting, and manipulating architectural drawings (2D & 3D).
Assessing the accuracy of simulation models from 2D and 3D architectural models.
Setting up simulations in ANSYS CFX and OpenFOAM.
Analysing and post-processing simulation results.
- Use, and modify as needed, MATLAB- and Python-based programs to further post-process simulation results, combine CFD data with meteorological data, and perform statistical analyses.
- Collaborate and communicate with other team members throughout projects to ensure timely delivery of projects.
- Communicate with clients as directed by the project manager or supervisor.
- Develop conclusions and recommendations and prepare accurate and complete technical reports.
Most reports will be written in English; some will be published in French (as required).
- Develop custom MATLAB/Python codes and/or CFD simulations to support project work, as required.
- Advance the CFD methodology and conduct relevant research in CWE, including collaborating and participating in the development of new CFD wind analysis services.
- Familiar with relevant regulation, guidelines, and building codes.
Skills & Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have the followings skills and qualifications:
- Master's in Civil, Mechanical, or Aeronautical Engineering.
Bachelor's degree with relevant work experience will be considered.
- Understanding of atmospheric fluid mechanics and engineering statistics.
- Experience using CFD software, such as ANSYS CFX, Fluent, or OpenFOAM.
- Proficient with MATLAB and AutoCAD.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Demonstrated initiative, motivation, and independent problem-solving skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, technical report writing.
- Ability to work well in a team environment with tight deadlines.
