Position Overview

Under the leadership and direction of the Registered Nurse, Licensed Practical Nurse or Registered Psychiatric Nurse as team leaders, the Health Care Aide (HCA) provides support and assistance to residents/patients in Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) as identified in the care plan. The HCA works to full scope of practice and engages in education and certifications to maintain competency. Person-centered care is provided according to established standards of practice, including but not limited to, Accreditation Canada Standards, Personal Care Home Standards, and legislative requirements.


The incumbent exercises the appropriate level of initiative and independent judgment in determining work priorities, work methods to be employed and action to be taken on unusual matters. The position functions in a manner that is consistent with the mission, vision and values; and the policies of Southern Health-Sante Sud.

Sous l'autorite et la direction du personnel infirmier autorise, du personnel infirmier auxiliaire autorise ou du personnel infirmier psychiatrique autorise en tant que chefs d'equipe, l'Aide en soins de sante aide les residents et les patients qui ont besoin de soutien pour les activites de la vie quotidienne, tel que determine dans le plan de soins etabli. L'Aide en soins de sante travaille dans tout le champ d'application de la pratique et s'engage dans la formation et les certifications pour maintenir ses competences. Les soins centres sur la personne sont fournis conformement aux normes de pratique etablies, y compris, mais non de facon limitative, les normes d'Agrement Canada, les normes pour les foyers de soins personnels et les exigences prevues par la loi.


Le ou la titulaire du poste beneficie d'un niveau d'initiative approprie et fait preuve d'un jugement independant pour determiner les priorites de travail, les methodes de travail a utiliser et les mesures a adopter pour traiter les questions inhabituelles. Les fonctions du poste sont exercees d'une maniere conforme a la vision, a la mission, aux valeurs et aux politiques de Southern Health-Sante Sud.

Experience

One to two (1-2) years' experience working in a health care setting preferred. One to two (1-2) years' experience preferably caring for elderly or disabled clients preferred.

Experience:

Une a deux (1-2) annees d'experience de travail dans le milieu des soins de sante, de preference. Une a deux (1-2) annees d'experience de travail aupres des personnes agees ou de clients handicapes, de preference.

Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)

Grade 12 education required or equivalent. Health Care Aide Certificate from recognized program. Other combinations of education and experience may be considered.

Formation (degre/diplome/certificat):

Diplome de 12e annee requis ou l'equivalent. Certificat d'aide en soins de sante d'un programme reconnu. D'autres combinaisons d'etudes et d'experience peuvent etre prises en consideration.

Certification/Licensure/Registration

Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (Acute Care).

Certificat en regle de Soins immediats en reanimation (SIR) (Soins actifs).

Qualifications and Skills

Proficiency of both official languages is essential (English/French). Knowledge of Confidentiality/privacy requirements following The Personal Health Information Act (PHIA) and Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA) legislation. Knowledge of Workplace safety requirements following Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS). Knowledge of Violence Prevention Program (VPP) training and processes. Knowledge of SCHIPP training and processes. Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize assigned workload. Demonstrated ability to perform as a team member and seek assistance as needed. Demonstrated effective verbal and written communication skills. Demonstrated ability to read, write, speak and understand English. Demonstrated ability to interact well with others. Demonstrated ability and willingness to work in stressful environments which may include aggressive and/or agitated individuals. Given the cultural diversity of our region, the ability to respect and promote a culturally diverse population is required. Demonstrated ability to respect confidentiality including paper, electronic formats and other mediums. Good work and attendance record.

Qualifications et competences:

Competences dans les deux langues officielles (francais et anglais) est essentielle. Connaissance des exigences en matiere de confidentialite et de respect de la vie privee conformement a la loi sur les renseignements medicaux personnels (PHIA) et a la loi sur l'acces a l'information et la protection de la vie privee (FIPPA). Connaissance des exigences en matiere de securite sur le lieu de travail, conformement au systeme d'information sur les matieres dangereuses utilisees au travail (SIMDUT). Connaissance de la formation et des processus du programme de prevention de la violence (VPP). Connaissance de la formation et des processus du programme de securite dans la manipulation des clients et de prevention de blessures (SCHIPP). Capacite d'organiser la charge de travail attribuee et d'etablir des priorites. Capacite de travailler en equipe et de demander de l'aide, au besoin. Competences demontrees en communication orale et ecrite. Capacite de lire, d'ecrire, de parler et de comprendre la langue anglaise. Capacite d'interagir convenablement avec d'autres personnes. Capacite et volonte de travailler dans des milieux stressants dans lesquels il peut y avoir des personnes agressives et/ou agitees. Capacite requise a respecter et a promouvoir une population culturellement diversifiee etant donne la diversite culturelle de notre region. Capacite demontree a respecter la confidentialite de l'information, qu'elle soit dans des documents papier, electroniques ou sous toutes autres formes. Bons antecedents de travail et d'assiduite.

Demonstrated ability to meet the physical and mental demands of the job. No hazardous or significantly unpleasant conditions. May work occasionally evenings and weekends as necessary. May be required to travel to other regional facilities if required by the duties of the position.
