Hours: Must be available to work flexible hours, including days and weekends, according to the home's needs (days, evenings, weekends) and direction of Resident Programs Manager


Salary: As per current SEIU collective Agreement


Candidates are invited to apply for the position of

Casual Activity Aide

at our 192-bed long term care home. Reporting to the resident Program Supervisor, the successful candidate will have the following qualifications:

QUALIFICATIONS

Must have a post-secondary diploma or degree from an accredited community college or university in recreation, leisure or activation studies or therapeutic recreation

, OR

a degree or diploma in Social Service Worker in Gerontology; Music Therapy; or Gerontology that includes

at least 3 courses

in recreation and leisure or therapeutic recreation Experience providing recreation program planning and implementation with seniors with physical and cognitive impairment is considered an asset. An energetic, compassionate person who enjoys working with the elderly Demonstration of oral and written communication skills Ability to problem solve Demonstration of planning and creative abilities Membership in Recreation Professionals of Ontario or Therapeutic Recreation Ontario is preferred

RESPONSIBILTIES

Plan, implement and evaluate both individual and group recreation programs based on assessed needs of residents and as assigned by supervisor. Set up and clean activity areas and transport residents to and from programs. Monitor behaviors and conditions of residents during programs and report and significant changes as appropriate. Participate in development and revision and revision of programs and volunteer department under the guidance of the supervisor. Maintain program and resident records according to department policy. Work cooperatively with other departments to meet resident needs.
