Additional NotesApplicant screening will occur as required documents are received and interview scheduling following soon thereafter without waiting on the position close date.Special TermsThis position is based on 8 sections of assigned work. This is considered a full time position. A section requires a total of 152 scheduled hours assigned. The position includes 37 hours of vacation per section (8 weeks full time) and 37 hours of Professional Development time per section (8 weeks full time). Vacation and Professional Development time will be scheduled in consultation with the Accessibility Services Coordinator and in such a way that all duties can be performed without replacement or substitution.

What you\'ll doThe Accessibility Services Advisor performs eligibility intake for students requesting academic accommodation and associated services, and case management following approval. This requires reviewing documentation, engaging students in the interactive process to determine and facilitate reasonable academic accommodations, providing leadership, support and advice, as well as liaising with members of the University community-most often instructors-and external service providers, in the provision of academic accommodations.A successful Accessibility Services Advisor hire is also expected to contribute to departmental responsibilities, including coordination, faculty evaluation, committee involvement, workshop delivery, and curriculum development, among other responsibilities.
What you\'ll bringQualifications

  • Master\'s degree in Special Education, Psychology, Counselling, Social Work or a directly related field.
Experience
  • Five (5) years direct experience in providing accessibility intake, case management and educational support services to adults with disabilities in a post-secondary educational setting.
  • A thorough knowledge of a broad range of disabilities, related equity and diversity issues and available services and programs to support students with disabilities.
  • Ability to evaluate a variety of documentation (medical, psychoeducational, neuropsychological) to determine students\' eligibility for and applicable academic accommodations.
  • Relevant course work and experience in interpreting and applying psychoeducational assessments.
  • Knowledge and experience interpreting and applying Government, Agency, University policies, procedures and guidelines governing the provision of support services to students with disabilities in a post-secondary educational setting.
  • Well versed in best practices in the field of accessibility and be considered a subject matter expert as it relates to the provision of accessibility services and the interactive academic accommodation process.
  • Knowledge of models of disability, inclusive education design, and their application to higher education.
  • Ability to effectively offer Accessibility Service information by way of print and presentation methods.
  • Experience identifying assistive technology of value for students with disabilities.
  • Experience keeping electronic records of student interactions, primarily appointments detailing a student\'s approval for reasonable academic accommodations and associated services.
  • Effective organization and time management skills with the ability to prioritize.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a busy team.
  • Ability to respond and deal effectively with change and crisis situations.
  • Ability to use tact and discretion to deal with or settle complex requests.
