This position is responsible for managing a portfolio of raw materials that are consumed across the various NOVA Chemicals businesses. The successful candidate for this position is required to lead various purchasing-related initiatives, prepare acquisition plans and formal commodity strategies, develop and execute negotiation strategies for contracts involving major spend commitments or key materials. Key commodity focal points will be cost reduction, supplier quality improvement, identifying and managing supply risks, developing alternate source of supplies, managing strategic supplier relationships, and working to develop Raw Materials process /system improvements.

You Will Use Your Expertise To:

  • Coach and train less senior team members and internal clients on strategy, negotiations, supplier management, and Raw Materials purchasing policies and practices.
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships and communications between the Raw Materials Team and our key internal clients.
  • Identify improvement opportunities tied to the assigned Raw Materials portfolio and work to prioritize them with internal clients.
  • Lead, participate on, and facilitate, cross-functional project teams and initiatives to analyze and implement solutions for complex and multi-dimensional problems.
  • Develop and implement Purchasing strategies for assigned projects and commodities, including leveraging global and regional opportunities.
  • Apply knowledge of Purchasing strategies and market dynamics to develop innovative solutions to meet both short-term and long-term supply requirements and resolve pricing / contract issues during negotiations.
  • Develop and gain approval of Commodity Acquisition Plans and lead negotiations for all assigned commodities and services.
  • Estimate annual savings and cost avoidance targets based on portfolio projects and market conditions
  • Manage assigned commodities and the associated supplier relationships through the development and maintenance of formal Commodity Strategies and Supplier Relationship Management Plans.
  • Provide a high level of customer service and work effectively within a team environment at all levels within NOVA.
  • Serve as a champion for Raw Materials Team objectives within NOVA, at the manufacturing sites, within Technology / R&D, and with the supplier community
What We Are Looking For:
  • University graduate with 8+ years related experience, or 12+ years of combined education, manufacturing or operations / technology / business experience, and continued professional development.
  • Broad understanding of Supply Chain, including logistic concepts. Purchasing accreditation (e.g. - CPM/SCMP) would be an asset.
  • Experience working in a manufacturing operations role and process chemicals would be an asset.
  • Ability to understand and manage the inter-relationships between functions when operational, quality, technical, or commercial issues arise with our raw materials.
  • Demonstrated strategic thinking, planning, and analytical skills.
  • Demonstrable experience managing supplier incidents and fostering effective long-term solutions based on proven root cause analytics.
  • Skilled at charting new course actions with little or no previous \'playbooks\' available.
  • Strong knowledge of Accounts Payable principles, including invoicing, debits, credits and account reconciliation.
  • Demonstrated ability to work within teams and interact effectively with senior leaders, various Leadership Teams and Decision Boards, and functional peers in Operations, Technology, Planning, Logistics, Quality, and Responsible Care - both within NOVA and with the supply base.
  • Demonstrated ability to solve problems, present ideas, influence, mediate, and negotiate.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, communications, change management, and team building skills.
  • Self-motivated, results oriented, and ability to provide a high level of client focus and service.
  • Comfortable & adept at managing competing priorities. Experience with SAP\'s Purchasing module is a plus.

Additional Information:
  • Relocation will NOT be considered for this position
  • Compensation will be commensurate with education and experience
  • This role requires up to 10% travel
