The Opportunity:
Casualty Claims Examiner
As a Casualty Claims Examiner, you'll investigate, evaluate, reserve, negotiate and resolve assigned automobile and commercial general liability injury losses by:
Reviewing new claims, developing thorough investigation strategies, securing statements, collecting key documentation (including medical records, authorizations, and estimates), and accurately assessing liability and exposure.
Communicating professionally with policyholders, medical practitioners, legal counsel, service providers, and other third parties to understand injury details, clarify treatment plans, and confirm the information necessary to determine coverage and claim viability.
Applying advanced knowledge of automobile injury liability and medical terminology while leveraging industry tools, negotiation techniques, and expert resources - such as independent medical evaluations and structured settlements - to achieve fair, timely, and well reasoned claim resolutions.
We're looking for a detail-oriented, service-focused team player who demonstrates integrity, sound judgement, and a strong commitment to delivering exceptional customer service.
What You'll Do:
Review new losses, develop investigation plans, and gather essential evidence including statements, photos, diagrams, and official reports.
Communicate with insureds, third parties, witnesses, and service providers to understand loss details and validate claim information.
Obtain medical records, authorizations, expert input, and other documentation needed to evaluate injuries and damages.
Analyze liability, assess coverage by reviewing complex policy wordings, and stay informed on legal and legislative developments.
Complete detailed damage assessments, evaluations, and worksheets.
Negotiate fair settlements within authority limits and present recommendations to leadership when higher approval is required.
Collaborate with legal counsel, when necessary, provide direction on litigation strategy, and participate in discovery or dispute resolution proceedings.
Maintain thorough, litigation-ready file documentation and ensure accurate reserves, payments, and regulatory data entry.
Build strong relationships with brokers, address inquiries, resolve issues, and represent the company professionally at industry events.
What You'll Bring:
Minimum of 5 years experience with automobile adjusting with exposure to accident benefit claims handling.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and relevant claims systems (e.g., Guidewire), with the ability to adapt to new technologies.
Consistently applies accuracy, thoroughness, and meticulousness in all aspects of work.
Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills to assess the strengths and weaknesses of each claim within authority limits.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
High level of confidentiality.
Ability to work independently or as a collaborative team and is self-motivated to work in a fast-paced changing environment.
Post secondary education in business or related medical field.
CIP designation completed, actively in progress, or willing to work towards.
