Description:

Reporting to the Claims Supervisor, the Liability Claims Examiner will be responsible for the day-to-day activities involved in investigating, assessing liability and developing a resolution strategy for a diverse range of liability claims.

The successful candidate in this new vacancy must be a self-motivated insurance professional who is business minded, results driven and customer focused, with the ability to prioritize and consistently meet deadlines.

Responsibilities:

Examine casualty claim files with an opportunity to handle complex liability files and professional liability claims Investigate claims either directly or through an adjuster and then provide a coverage assessment for the insured by reviewing the insurance contract and all relevant claim materials Assess the exposure from a claim and then develop a resolution strategy Negotiate claim settlement directly with claimant or opposing counsel Work with external counsel in developing a litigation strategy for claims in litigation Oversee and provide direction to external counsel Attend mediations and settlement conferences Conduct legal research, analysis and file review Organize and maintain active files in proper order for examining and reserve review Negotiate settlement of claims with insureds, claimants and plaintiff lawyers Provide direction to claims adjusters in handling of claims Maintain detailed on-line diary notes

Qualifications:

A minimum of 5 years experience in Property & Casualty Insurance claims Strong organizational skills, with good attention to detail Excellent written and verbal communication skills University or College education preferable, in a business or analytical discipline is an asset Bilingual in French and English is an asset
