Those looking for more information are invited to visit ourCasual Food Service Workers provide wholesome and nutritious meals for young persons in secure custody and adult offenders within a correctional centre. Casuals are required to cover shifts when permanent Food Service Workers are on leave or there is a requirement for additional staffing.Duties will include but are not limited to:

  • Preparing, cooking, and serving food for clients, staff, Prince County Correctional Facility and special events;
  • Conducting clean-up for all meals;
  • Preparing special diets according to prescribed menus;
  • Supervising and instructing offenders assigned to the kitchen for food preparation and cleaning duties;
  • Monitoring the movement of kitchen supplies inventory, ordering supplies, and maintaining kitchen and unit food inventory;
  • Ensuring sanitization practices are followed according to code and adhering to Occupational Health and Safety standards;
  • Assisting in planning menus;
  • Ensuring dining room and kitchen are secure between meals and at the end of each shift;
  • Providing learning opportunities for young persons interested in obtaining life skills in the food preparation industry;
  • Providing supports to other divisional programs as required; and
  • Other duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Completion of grade 12 and the completion of a certified cooking course leading to writing of Red Seal.
  • Experience in instructional cooking, food preparation and service.
  • Knowledge of nutritional standards and public health standards/regulations.
  • Current First Aid/CPR certificate.
  • WHMIS training required.
  • Good organizational, verbal, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Must have a good previous attendance and work record.
  • The successful applicant must provide a satisfactory Criminal.
