Job Description

This position is responsible for performing para-professional rehabilitative functions, on an assigned shift, including supervision and counseling of Offenders sentenced to custody at the PEI Youth Centre under the direction of the unit supervisor.


Duties will include but are not limited to:




Providing 24-hour supervision, safety, and security to remanded and sentenced Offenders based on legislative requirements; Delivering structured daily programs; Assisting Offenders in the development of life skills such as: self-care, self-discipline, budgeting, cooking, communication skills, and anger management; As a member of a multi-service case management team, developing individualized reintegration plans with Offenders, relevant agencies, and family members; Ensuring compliance with policies and procedures and related legislation; Assisting Offenders to reintegrate into their families/communities upon release from custody; Identifying and responding to incidents; Ongoing case recording and preparation of written reports as required; and Other related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications:




Applicants must have a university degree, preferably in social science OR a community college diploma in a related subject area. Must have some experience working with troubled youth or comparable and /or related OJT training. Demonstrated equivalencies will be considered. Excellent communication skills, be a team player, possess organizational skills, strong decision making and leadership skills. Must possess or willing to obtain in the first three months, a valid Class 4 driver's license and be certified in CPR and First Aid. The successful applicant must provide a satisfactory criminal record check and vulnerable sector check prior to beginning employment. Additional relevant education and experience will be considered an asset.
