Position Purpose Summary:

The Caseworker - Waterston Centre provides supervision and support for residents as required by The Salvation Army and funding contract policies and procedures. The Caseworker is part of the Case Management Team for Waterston Ministries and reports to the Case Management Supervisor.

This is a permanent full time position at 40 hours per week. Shifts will include afternoons, evenings and weekends.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Casework Accountabilities and Client Support:

  • Provide case management services for the residents of Waterston Centre, this includes Emergency Shelter, Men's Residence and Supportive Residential Program (SRP)
  • Reviews all resident applications, oversees referrals from Ministry of Social Services and other agencies
  • Completes pre-admission house tours and provides information to potential residents and their workers, provides handbook, basic tour of main living areas
  • Completes discharge processes when residents are discharged from the program, ensures resident's belongings are packed,
  • Builds and maintains a therapeutic milieu with workers and residents
  • Ensures the physical and psychological needs of residents are being met through programming, individual counselling, etc.
  • May chair monthly (or as needed) planning meetings for residents and workers
  • Maintains regular contact with
  • Supports resident appointments (medical, counselling, etc.)
  • Provides statistical and evaluative information to management and funders
  • To support and encourage residents of the program in their transition
  • To support the efforts made to meet the residents' spiritual needs and cultural practice
Case Management:
  • Handle all incoming residential clients. Review program packages and meet and interview potential clients/residents, in consultation with the Resident Services Director where required.
  • Provides safe storage, distribution and recording of prescribed medication for clients/residents of the assigned programs.
  • Monitor the environment and clients/residents to ensure safety and security; completes regular client/resident status checks and room searches as required. Ensures that all required documentation of searches/checks is completed as required.
  • Develop and implement case management of assigned clients/residents; assists clients/residents in establishing goals, monitoring progress, and prepares discharge plan.
  • Accompanies residents in the community when necessary and monitors behavior.
  • Review all resident intakes, discharges, and restrictions.
  • Assist the Case Management Supervisor in developing and coordinating the delivery of designated programs as required,
  • Intervene in crisis situations, provide emotional support and advocacy as required.
  • Provide program related orientation to newly hired staff, volunteers, and students.
  • Provide back-up support to Residential Workers and their functions as required.
  • Respond to day to day "urgent" needs of clients.
  • Perform other position related duties as assigned.
Communication and Reporting:
  • Establish, compile, and maintain proper records and files as required for each assigned program, writes progress and in-depth reports and provides information on the outcomes of the programs and the progress of each client/resident.
  • Maintain and update all appropriate documentation and reports (including in-out and incident logbooks) related to clients/residents
  • Maintain statistical information relevant to the evaluation of service provisions and provide direct supervisor with other relevant data as required by the funder and The Salvation Army.
  • Prepare monthly outcome, statistical and measures reports in an accurate and timely manner.
Community Networking and Partnerships:
  • Under the direction of the Resident Services Director and Case Management Supervisor, work with the partners to build relationships that will support the residents and program
  • Assists clients/residents by providing support, networking, and other direct services.
  • Attend and facilitate case conferences with the case management team.
Other Duties:
  • Responsible to work safely and report all unsafe or unhealthy working conditions to the Health and Safety Committee.
  • Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army's health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Participate in regular supervision and performance reviews/evaluations as required.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

Education/Certifications:
  • Completion of a formal post-secondary/college program of two academic years in Social Services, Human Services, or any other relevant fields
  • Certification in Mental Health & Addictions would be an asset
  • A different combination of education and experience might be considered
  • Current CPR and First Aid training
Experience:
  • Must have a minimum of two (2) years' experience in related field, including frontline casework experience in a social service environment, functional supervision and working with marginalized clientele.
  • Knowledge of issues facing persons experiencing housing crisis, various social issues pertaining to homelessness and its impact on the families served.
  • Knowledge and sound understanding of the Mental Health and Addictions support systems available to individuals in the region.
  • Solid background of how to work with people from diverse backgrounds and enjoy assisting others to solve problems.

  • Participate in ongoing professional development and training.
  • Valid Saskatchewan Driver's License, current copy of driver's abstract that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is an asset.
  • Original copy of a Background Check with vulnerable sector screening that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required. The screening is secured either through the national Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC) or through a local police detachment.
  • Screening through The Salvation Army Abuse Registry is required.

Work setting is at Waterston Centre which is a Residential Facility with shift work required.

Emergency Shelter residents will be the primary caseload.

Willingness to work extra time occasionally when required to support programming requirements within the Ministry Unit

Ability and willingness to work flexible hours per the needs and requirements of the position.

This position will be working afternoon/evening shift with weekends as part of regular schedule.
