Maintenance Department

Full-time (12 month) position

7:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday

The River East Transcona School Division invites applications from qualified individuals for the position of Carpenter. Under the general direction of the Structural supervisor, the Carpenter will be responsible for a wide variety of repair and construction services necessary to maintain/upgrade schools and Divisional facilities and grounds.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Carpentry-related maintenance tasks, minor renovations, or alterations in Division buildings Repair and installation of doors Experience with the installation of commercial door hardware Repair of existing millwork and furniture Installation of new millwork, whiteboards and tackboards Steel stud framing, wood framing, install of drywall as required to assist other divisional trades. Flooring repair VCT, carpets, sheet vinyl, hardwood, ceramic, and baseboards Window repair and replacement Concrete forming - housekeeping pads interior Wood fencing repair Maintains adequate inventory of material pertaining to his/her field Other duties as may be assigned from time to time

Qualifications, Skills and Abilities:

Qualifications

Journeyperson Certificate "Red Seal" in carpentry required Minimum ten (10) years' of wide-ranging related experience in building repair. Working knowledge of all aspects of carpentry, i.e., framing, finishing, cabinetry, doors, and commercial door hardware. Must hold a valid Class 5 Manitoba Driver's License with a clear driving record Must provide a current driver's abstract Practice correct, safe-driving habits All staff required to complete computerized training modules upon hire External applicants must supply a Criminal Record Search, a cleared Child Abuse Registry check upon hire.

*Hours may be adjusted to meet operational requirements during winter, spring, and summer breaks.
