K. James Construction, general contractor in Perth, Ontario, has an excellent reputation for building quality, custom homes. We are dedicated to maintaining high customer satisfaction by emphasizing good design, using the most suitable materials and setting the highest standards for our suppliers, sub-trades and staff.

We have built more than 120 homes in Perth and surrounding area since 1981, including recreational and country homes, in both contemporary and traditional styles, ranging in size from 1,100 to 7,000 sq. ft.

The Opportunity

We have immediate opportunities for two (2) full-time carpenters (permanent). The ideal candidates have at least five (5) years of carpentry experience.

In order to be considered for this position you must have a valid Ontario driver's license and a clean abstract.

Overview:

The Carpenter at K. James Construction is a construction professional who collaborates with other construction workers to create, alter, and repair wood structures for various building projects, including but not limited to the high-quality custom homes that the company is known for.

In this role, you will understand construction activities, and you will interact with teammates and sub-trades on job sites throughout the region. Your position is crucial to ensuring that we complete projects to the highest standard of quality.

Responsibilities include:

Taking direction and working effectively as a collaborative team member. Following workplace safety requirements. Following blueprints and building plans. Measuring, cutting and shaping wood and other materials. Installing form work, including ICF. Placing and finishing concrete. Framing, including walls, floors and roofs. Interior and exterior finishes including sidings, soffits, interior and exterior trim. Installation of windows and doors, air barriers, insulation and rainscreen.

Qualifications:

At least five (5) years of prior carpentry experience. Valid Ontario driver's license and a clean driver's abstract. Reliable access to a vehicle. Strong work ethic and positive attitude. Willingness to learn. Ability to use hand and power tools. Strong attention to detail and quality. Effective English communication skills (speaking, reading, writing). Ability to work independently or in small teams. Physical ability to stand, walk, crouch, kneel, reach, climb (ladder). Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Working at Heights certification an asset.

Working Conditions:

Monday to Friday, full-time hours (M - Th: 7:30 am - 4:30 pm, F: 7:30 am - 3:30 pm) Additional hours occasionally required to meet deadlines. Travel between office site and job sites daily. This position works outdoors in all elements/seasons, as well as indoors in dwellings that are under construction and may still be exposed to the elements. Long periods of standing and walking. Frequent periods of climbing and/or crouching. Regular requirement to lift up to 50 lbs.

Pay: $25.00-$30.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 - 44 per week
