Tasks

Read blueprints, drawings and sketches to determine work requirements Prepare layouts in conformance to building codes, using measuring tools Measure, cut, shape, assemble and join materials made of wood, wood substitutes, lightweight steel and other materials Build foundations, install floor beams, lay subflooring and erect walls and roof systems Fit and install windows, doors, stairs, mouldings and hardware Schedule and co-ordinate work on sites Supervise other workers Estimate costs and materials Maintain, repair and renovate residences and wooden structures in mills, mines, hospitals, industrial plants and other establishments Set up and adjust saw equipment Perform various trade work during home construction or renovation activities Order supplies and maintain inventory Measure, cut, fit and install drywall sheets Maintain work records and logs Fabricate or repair wooden parts for furniture, fixtures and other wood products Cut materials using power tools or by hand Assemble panelboard and switchboard cabinets and install bus bars Apply paint, wallpaper and other materials and finishes to interior and exterior surfaces Maintain clean and safe work environment Read blueprints to determine dimensions of structure or system and material requirements
