The Opportunity
As
Carpenter
you will work as part of the Shorefast construction/maintenance team and perform a variety of related carpentry and repair duties at various job sites as required.
What You'll Do
Follow through on verbal and written work orders as directed by Supervisors(s).
Demonstrate safe work habits and knowledge of safety rules and instructions while performing job functions.
Participate in all necessary training provided by the employer and adhere to all safety standards learned within said training.
Conduct basic troubleshooting and routine maintenance.
Measure, cut, or shape wood, plastic, and other materials.
Help erect, level, and install building framework.
Perform Carpentry functions such as build and/or renovate framework, walls, roof, exterior and interior finishes; and install doors, door locks, windows, flooring, cabinets, stairs, handrails, paneling, plaster, drywall, moulding and ceiling tiles on residential and commercial buildings.
Read drawings, perform layout including selecting materials, planning sequences and methods of work, and measuring and marking materials to avoid costly mistakes or omissions.
An average knowledge of electrical, plumbing and mechanical systems is required.
Assist with supervision of Construction Laborers and Carpenters 1's on job sites as directed.
Demonstrate excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills
Work well with others and work in a team environment.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Experience
High school diploma or equivalent.
2 years + carpentry experience preferred.
Red seal carpenter certification not required but is considered an asset.
Preference may be given to applicants entered into the apprenticeship program.
Class 5 drivers license is a requirement.
Ability to perform constant physical labor, operate tools and machinery, and lift as least 80lbs is required.
Ability to work in wet, damp, hot, cold, or dusty places required.
Ability to stoop or kneel in order to gain access to work areas required.
Ability to work while standing for extended periods of time required.
Ability to work effectively in both individual and group settings required.
Must have own hand tools.
