The Unregulated Care Provider (UCP) at Windsor Place Retirement Residence plays a vital role in supporting residents' daily living activities and well-being. Under the supervision of the Director of Care (DOC) or designate, the UCP provides safe and compassionate care that meets the physical, emotional, and social needs of residents, ensuring they live with dignity and comfort.
Key Responsibilities:
Resident Care:
Assist residents with activities of daily living (ADLs), including bathing, dressing, grooming, and toileting.
Provide mobility assistance, including transferring residents and supporting ambulation using proper body mechanics and equipment.
Ensure timely and accurate administration of prescribed medications, as delegated and in compliance with Windsor Place policies.
Monitor and report changes in residents' health, behavior, or emotional state to the Director of Care or designate.
Documentation and Reporting:
Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of care provided, including incident reports and medication records.
Communicate effectively with team members regarding residents' needs and care plans.
Support Services:
Assist with meal service, including serving, feeding (if required), and ensuring proper hydration.
Perform light housekeeping tasks related to resident care, such as tidying rooms and ensuring a clean environment.
Safety and Compliance:
Follow all health and safety protocols, including infection prevention and control measures.
Participate in fire drills, emergency preparedness, and workplace safety training.
Adhere to Windsor Place's policies and the Retirement Homes Act (RHA) standards.
Resident Engagement:
Foster positive relationships with residents by promoting a respectful and supportive environment.
Encourage participation in activities and programs to enhance residents' social, emotional, and physical well-being.
Qualifications and Skills:
Education and Certification:
Personal Support Worker (PSW) certificate or equivalent training is an asset.
First Aid and CPR certification (mandatory).
Safe medication administration training or willingness to complete training.
Experience:
Previous experience in a senior living or healthcare setting preferred.
Experience working with older adults, including those with dementia or other cognitive impairments, is an asset.
Skills:
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Strong organizational and time-management abilities.
Empathy, patience, and a commitment to resident-centered care.
Must be able to speak, read, and write in English.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift, push, or pull up to 50 lbs.
Frequent standing, walking, bending, and lifting.
Additional Requirements:
Must be legally eligible to work in Canada.
Criminal background check with a vulnerable sector screening.
Working Conditions:
The position involves shifts, including days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays, as needed.
Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and handle challenging situations professionally.
