Career Practitioner/Language Coach





Location: St. John's, NL



Position Type: 1 full-time position starting in January until approximately mid-May (16-week project)

Reporting to the Senior Manager of Employment Programs, the

Career Practitioner/Language coach

focuses on assisting newcomers in navigating the Canadian job market, understanding the local workplace culture, and overcoming the unique challenges they may face during their career integration process.

Roles and Responsibilities:




Develop personalized job search strategies for newcomers based on their skills, experiences, and the Canadian job market Offer guidance on building professional networks in Canada, including connecting with local associations, attending networking events, and leveraging online platforms like LinkedIn Organize and deliver workshops on topics such as interview techniques, resume writing, and workplace culture tailored to the Canadian context Conduct individual employment counseling sessions to understand newcomers' career goals, strengths, and areas of improvement Provide newcomers with workplace culture orientation to help clients understand Canadian workplace norms, communication styles, and professional etiquette Provide instruction and guidance to learners on workplace-specific language development Offer constructive feedback on learners' language usage, speaking clarity, and written communication. Assist learners in developing strategies for improving their language skills in a workplace context. Deliver effective language coaching sessions to individuals in a workplace environment. Assess learners' language proficiency and identify their specific needs and goals. Develop personalized coaching plans to address learners' language challenges and enhance their communication skills Develop and implement activities and exercises to enhance learners' listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills Design engaging and interactive language learning materials and resources Incorporate real-world workplace scenarios and tasks into coaching sessions to facilitate practical language application Track learners' progress and provide regular feedback on their language development Conduct periodic assessments to evaluate learners' language proficiency and identify areas for improvement Adjust coaching strategies and materials based on learners' evolving needs and progress Enter case management information and employment outcomes in ARMS, NewOrg and other databases Complete progress and final reports as per the project agreement



Qualifications and Experience:




Bachelor's or Master's degree in counseling, social work, human resources, or a related field Knowledge of Canadian immigration policies, settlement services, and labour market trends Familiarity with credential recognition processes and regulatory bodies in Canada Strong communication skills and ability to work with clients from diverse cultural backgrounds Proficiency in relevant software for resume writing, job searching, and career assessment Experience in career counseling, coaching, or related roles, preferably with a focus on newcomers



Conditions of Employment:




Legal authorization to work in Canada Flexible to work outside of core hours (Monday-Friday, 9:00am - 5:00pm) Valid class 5 NL driver's license and daily access to a personal vehicle is required Ability to travel is required Position is subject to a satisfactory Criminal Record Screening and Vulnerable Sector Check from the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary Valid First Aid Certificate is an asset
