Established in 1976 the Saskatchewan Indian Institute of Technologies (SIIT) is a First Nation governed post-secondary institution. Nature and Scope




As an employee in the JobConnections unit, this position is accountable to provide career services on an outreach basis throughout communities in the province. This position will positively promote and create an environment that demonstrates SIIT's vision, mission, and mandate.

General Accountability




The Career Development Coach is required to take a lead role in facilitating services that support the career development process of clients through such means as assessment, coaching, workshop delivery, basic job preparation skill development, informed job search, referral, promotion of SIIT programs/services and connection to employers. This facilitation will occur through delivery in a mobile career bus. Approximately half of this role will involve delivery of employment focused programming to groups of clients. This position requires extensive travel as all functions will occur in or near First Nation communities of Saskatchewan.

Specific Accountabilities




The Career Development Coach will work closely with employers in order to leverage employment opportunities for clients, offer career services to clients across the province, according to the needs of communities, funding agencies and/or employers. This position will demonstrate a strong commitment to create and maintain a creative and positive learning environment at SIIT. This position provides additional support as required and includes the following broad range of accountabilities:

Partnering and Teamwork

Extensive travel to various First Nation communities and events Network, build relationships with and gather information from employers and industry stakeholders to inform the development of program content and service deliverables Develop programs and services, as well as, facilitate content Connect employers with potential job seekers Work collaboratively with internal and external partners to coordinate various aspects of program and service delivery

InstructionAdministration

Prepare lesson plans and appropriate delivery methods, following the curriculum provided to deliver program Create and maintain all course-related records including evaluations and client attendance and registration Use appropriate methods of instruction, modeling, and coaching to facilitate client learning Develop a familiarity with the labour market in the region Research existing employment opportunities in the specific region, network and communicate with potential employers Develop a familiarity with the client support resources, such as counselling agencies, health support, childcare or other Document and report client results as required Submit final project/community report Recommend revisions and additions to program content Manage the intake process for clients Review registration statistics and consult with appropriate staff and departments Conduct research in order to stay current on best practices in the career services field

Client Services

Assess clients and provide individual and group career coaching services using a variety of methods and self-assessment tools Use various tools to assess employability, literacy, essential skills, current skills, and knowledge to determine service needs Identify individual employment barriers and assist clients in developing achievable, realistic and meaningful life and career goals Coach clients on career management and career decision-making skills, as well as, techniques on effectively managing work-life balance Provide information about occupations and employability factors, including the nature of the work and work setting training requirements, in addition to the traits, abilities, values, and attitudes of workers successful in the occupation Provide job search support services such as resume development, cover letters, interview preparation and the job search process Provide assistance, guidance, referrals, and information to clients as required

Mobile Career Bus Requirements

Operate and maintain the mobile career buses in a safe and courteous manner at all times Perform cleaning duties on the buses as required Ensure safety checklist is utilized prior to operation of mobile career bus Notify supervisor of any and all safety hazards concerning the mobile career buses at all times Ensure buses are adequately stocked with supplies and equipped with relevant tools and technologies required for successful completion of career services

Required Qualifications and Experience:

A degree or diploma in a social sciences discipline, business, or a related post-secondary degree is preferred. Two (2) years of related experience in training and labour force is required. A certificate in Life Skills is an asset, in addition to, experience in career development, including assessment tools and testing. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite of programs is required. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Knowledge of First Nations cultures and organizations would be an asset. Incumbent must have a valid driver's license and reliable transportation as travel is required. Extensive travel is required to communities across Saskatchewan. The successful candidate must be able to provide their driver's license for verification and approval as part of the requirements of this position.


As this position is considered safety sensitive, the incumbent will be subject to testing as per SIIT's Alcohol and Substances policy.
