Career Development Advisor

.


The Career Development Advisor (CDA) is a member of the Haskayne School of Business Student Services team and reports to the Manager, Career and Student Experience. The CDA supports undergraduate and graduate students by providing career advising, programming, and engagement initiatives that prepare students for meaningful career outcomes.


The role requires coordination with internal and external stakeholders, application of University policies and procedures, and moderate independent judgment to solve routine to moderately complex issues. The incumbent works primarily in-office with occasional flexibility to work outside regular hours as needed.


The CDA is responsible for working with their peers in Student Services and the broader Haskayne community to prepare business students for career readiness and success upon completion of their academic program. The CDA focuses primarily on specialized career advising and delivery of career programming initiatives that achieve the desired career placement and work-integrated learning outcomes of HSB programs, students and the business community.


This position works within a framework of University and School policies and procedures and requires initiative and good judgement.


Due to operational requirements of this position, this position works predominantly in-office. The primary hours of work for this position are Monday to Friday, 8:30 A.M. to 4:30 P.M, 7 hours per day (35 hours per week); however, there may be a demand to work outside of these hours. This position is part of the AUPE Collective Bargaining Unit.

Summary of Key Responsibilities

(job functions include but are not limited to):


Student Career Development and Advising

Provide career advising and coaching to undergraduate and graduate students. Assist students in exploring career options, preparing job search materials, and developing skills for workplace success. Deliver workshops, group advising sessions, and events on career development topics. Maintain student records and program statistics; support data-informed decision-making.

Program and Employer Engagement Support

Support employer engagement initiatives and work-integrated learning programs, in collaboration with Career Development Specialists, Employer Relations Specialists, and Work Integrated Learning staff. Assist in coordinating student participation in networking, recruitment events, and work-integrated learning opportunities. Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure programming aligns with curriculum and student needs.

Resource Development and Reporting

Assist in the preparation and maintenance of career resources, guides, and web content. Collect and report on student participation, employment outcomes, and program impact to inform continuous improvement.

Qualifications / Requirements:



Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (business, education, social sciences) or equivalent combination of education and experience; CCDP, RPR, or other professional designation an asset. 2+ year's work experience in career services, student affairs, or related professional services environment; an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Knowledge of career development practices, student engagement, experiential learning models, and familiarity with postsecondary programs and student populations. Experience advising/coaching students, developing and delivering workshops/tutorials, coordinating events, and using career or student data systems. Proficiency in MS Office and contemporary technology platforms. Understanding of industry recruitment processes, interview/screening techniques, and Calgary/Alberta job markets and employment trends. Knowledge of business functional areas, ability to develop metrics and evaluation systems, and assess program/service effectiveness. Excellent public speaking, interpersonal, and written communication skills; proven ability to develop and sustain relationships with students and corporate clients. Strong organizational, analytical, problem-solving, and time-management skills with attention to detail; ability to work in a fast-paced, high-interruption environment. Professional attitude, tact, work ethic, adaptability, and ability to work both independently and collaboratively. Ability to remain calm under pressure and handle demanding situations effectively. Marketing and business development experience an asset.
