Role Summary:

The Coordinator, Career Development (Career Coach), plays an essential role in helping students discover career opportunities, access career development programs, and plan for future careers or post-graduate studies. Rooted in a student-centered, strength-based approach, this role empowers students to shape their career journeys with clarity through coaching, experiential learning, and tailored career education.

This position helps the students identify their values, interests, and strengths, co-creating personalized career pathway plans that include internships, volunteer work, mentorship, and professional development. This role also contributes to the design and continuous improvement of career development programs and resources, ensuring they are relevant, inclusive, and embedded across the student experience.


Responsibilities:

Builds trusted relationships with students through one-on-one and small group coaching; helping them explore strengths, clarify goals, and co-create career development plans aligned with academic pathways, values, and future aspirations. Supports students in navigating uncertainty, using thoughtful inquiry and critical thinking to guide reflection and decision-making. Provides tailored guidance on professional communication, career readiness skills, and strategies for sustainable success. Facilitates connections with employers, alumni, and professionals to foster mentoring relationships and exposure to career pathways that align with their career aspiration and to demonstrate the value of a Liberal Arts education at Huron Offers individualized advising on graduate school options, supporting students in researching, planning, and completing applications that reflect their goals and strengths. Designs and implements continuous improvements to career development programming and resources based on student needs and emerging workforce trends. Facilitates engaging workshops, events, and resource development and internship programming that support students in building self-awareness, career confidence, and professional skills. Collaborates with internal stakeholders to embed career education meaningfully across the student experience. Uses Huron's CRM and other digital tools to document student interactions, track engagement, ensure data-informed student support, and ensure alignment with departmental goals. Builds and nurtures relationships with employers, alumni, associations, and community partners to expand opportunities aligned with student interests. Represents Huron at community events and networking opportunities, acting as a connector between students and the broader professional ecosystem.


Qualifications:

Undergraduate degree from a recognized post-secondary institution required; Additional education related to Educational Counselling or certificate as a Career Development Practitioner or Career Coach, considered an asset; Minimum of two (2) years relevant experience supporting student career development, ideally with a post-secondary or experiential learning environment; Strong knowledge of career development frameworks, best practices, and internship or co-curricular programming models for university students; Insight into current labour market trends, occupations, and post-graduate education pathways relevant to students' evolving goals; Familiarity with academic disciplines and programs within Huron University, a Liberal Arts College; Proficiency with MS Office Suite Products (specifically Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and CRM tools and other digital platforms; Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to balance multiple priorities and maintain high service standards in a dynamic environment; Excellent communication skills - both written and verbal- with the ability to engage diverse audiences including students, faculty, alumni, and employer partners with clarity, warmth, and professionalism; Highly developed interpersonal and relationship-building skills with a commitment to equity, inclusion, and student-centered service; Self-motivated, adaptable, and collaborative team player who brings energy, creativity, and initiative to their work. Demonstrates sound judgment, problem-solving ability, and a commitment to continuous improvement and reflective practice.
