The Faculty of Information at the University of Toronto is a research-led Faculty, educating the next generation of leaders in information scholarship and the information professions, both established and emerging. The Faculty, which will celebrate its centenary in 2028, has built on its heritage strengths in archives and museums to incorporate scientific and technological expertise from engineering, computer science, and other disciplines. At the same time, it has committed itself to applying social, political, and cultural perspectives from media arts, humanities, and social science to the study of information, technology, people and the relationships among them.
The Faculty currently offers two Master?s degree programs, namely, a Master of Museum Studies (MMSt), and a Master of Information (MI), as well as a Combined MI/MMSt Degree Program (CDP). The Faculty also offers a PhD program and in 2019 it introduced a Bachelor of Information (BI) program.
MI Students can specialize in one or two concentrations including Archives and Records Management, Library and Information Sciences, Information Systems and Design, User Experience Design and Human-Centred Data Science.

Your opportunity:
Reporting to the Manager, Co-op, Careers, and Work-Integrated Learning, the Career and Work Integrated Learning Advisor will advise students about career-related matters by providing options and consequences depending upon personal circumstances. This includes developing and delivering content for in-person or online educational and instructional workshops, advising students on how to conduct job searches,cover letter and resume development, and developing student assessment plans.
The Career and Work Integrated Learning Advisor will support and participate in special events in collaboration with internal stakeholders to establish links between employers, students, professional bodies and other community services to contribute to the overall successful employment of students within their chosen fields.
Your responsibilities will include:
Advising students on career-related matters by providing options and consequences incorporating personal circumstances impacting academic success and an understanding of an individual's background
Advising students on employment options and strategies to achieve their career goals
Advising students on how to conduct job searches, cover letter and resume development
Advising students on job search, industry research and networking strategies including cover letter, resume and interview preparation
Advising and coaching students on interview skills and/or performance
Keeping well-informed on best practices for developing student placement and work-integrated learning opportunities
Consulting with instructors, administrators and student groups on the development of tailored programming needs
Reviewing and assessing feedback received from workshops, programming and appointments
Essential Qualifications:
Master's Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent education and experience.
Minimum three (3) years of progressive experience advising students about career-related matters and providing tailored support based on student needs
Experience with the creation and delivery of educational workshops and one-on-one support services
Experience with online facilitation or educational technologies
Broad Knowledge of trends in employer hiring practices, occupations, current labour market conditions and a strong understanding of student and career development theories
Ability to communicate effectively and empathetically with a diverse university student population and have a genuine desire to meet the needs of students
Commitment to working as a team player, fostering an environment of respect, inclusiveness and innovation
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a strong emphasis on influencing skills
Strong presentation and public speaking skills
Knowledge of adult learning principles
Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office and Symplicity (or other records management systems)
Strong organizational, conflict resolution and problem solving skills
Ability to manage conflicting demands, prioritize and work under pressure
Demonstrated tact, discretion and sensitivity to confidential material
