Position Summary:
Reporting to the Manager of Internships and Student Affairs, the Career Advisor will counsel and advise students in the Bachelor of Education, Bachelor of Science (Kinesiology) and Bachelor of Arts(Education)- Major in Education in Global Contexts programs. The Career Advisor will support their career planning and skills development, contribute to the enhancement of career programs and services, identify job market opportunities, and improve job search plans. The role ensures that students in specific education streams are equipped with the tools and techniques necessary for successful career and professional development. Additionally, the Career Advisor will participate in the development and implementation of marketing plans to promote career services activities and will take part in career planning initiatives.
Primary Responsibilities:Provide individualized and group career advising and coaching to current Education students to support their career planning and skills development, including the administration of career assessment tools, preparation for recruiting (cv/cover letter writing/interviewing techniques) and self-directed job search.
Develop high-quality career education programs and services for students, with specific learning objectives and outcomes.
Develop career-related materials, prepare and deliver relevant workshops for students in the Faculty of Education. Participate in the creation of video tutorials, resume book reviews, and other as required.
Manage and build relationships with relevant local and international partners and employers to maximize job opportunities for students.
Develop and implement plan to increase employer base.
Represent Career Services at student orientations, academic advising events, and student teaching information sessions.
Support instructors by providing workshops to students about professionalism, interviewing, and other topics upon demand.
Responsible for planning Faculty events such as the annual Career Fair, networking and other events, and for participating in planning events such as orientation, recruitment, student life in collaboration with undergraduate student societies.
Design and deliver targeted workshops, panels, and career related events that are specific to the needs of students
Develop procedures for the management of events and the delivery of services (e.g. use of technology to manage event registrations, website maintenance, etc.).
In collaboration with the Marketing and Communications Officer, develop outreach and promotional/marketing materials for services, workshops and events.
Keep abreast of new developments in the fields of career development, vocational guidance and job market. Ensure students are kept up to date on job market trends.
Work closely with the Career Planning service (CAPs) Career Advisors by collaborating on several career events and initiatives.
Build and maintain relationships with the undergraduate student societies to encourage student engagement and promote career and student life events.
Represent the Faculty on various University committees and career-working groups, as well as external meetings.
Act as guest speaker at various functions, both on and off campus, to promote the Faculty of Education and career development.
Perform other related duties, as required.
Other Qualifying Skills and/or AbilitiesExperience working in educational environments, with an understanding of student needs and academic structures.
Experience providing one-on-one and group career advising, including the use of career assessment tools, job search strategies, and application preparation (CVs, cover letters, interviews).
Experience in developing and delivering workshops, career education programs, and student-focused resources with clear learning outcomes.
Strong public speaking and facilitation skills; able to engage diverse student audiences and present in various formats.
Proven ability to build and maintain relationships with employers, partners, and campus stakeholders to enhance student opportunities.
Experience planning and executing career events (e.g., fairs, panels, networking) and managing event logistics and promotion.
Knowledge of current job market trends, especially as they relate to the education sector.
Strong written and verbal communication skills; effective collaborator across departments and student associations.
Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and student-centered advising.
Organized, proactive, and adaptable in managing multiple priorities and evolving student needs.
Bilingual (French and English)
Experience creating and managing newsletters and promotional materials to engage students and promote services
Ability to develop digital content and communications tailored to student interests and needs
