What Does a Capital Projects Manager Do?

The Capital Project Manager plans and oversees the end-to-end delivery of assigned projects and ensures delivery within scope, budget, and business requirements, while minimizing disruptions in operational deliverables.

As a Capital Projects Manager, You Will:

  • Adhere to the Miller safety standards, policies, and procedures
  • Ensure compliance with provincial safety and environmental mandates in project execution
  • Lead and oversee all aspects of the project so it is delivered according to budget and time
  • Develop, monitor, and adjust critical path schedules to achieve project milestones
  • Implement processes, measures and standards that achieve productivity targets
  • Monitor performance against project plan and design corrective action when necessary to ensure compliance
  • Liaise with operations and regional managers for internal resources and coordinate with subcontractors/suppliers, organize the 1 month+ logistics of projects(s) to meet schedule
  • Develop the project budget for direct, indirect, and other costs based on estimates
  • Review performance status reports on forecast and margins to identify issues and opportunities to minimize costs
  • Develop preliminary resource schedules for the flow of labour, materials, and equipment on the project to optimize resources during project delivery
  • Identify all long lead time materials and services and ensure time procurement strategies are in place
  • Participate in the CAPEX process for Concrete operations
  • Present proposals complete with scopes, assumptions, and ROI to senior management for procuring approvals
  • Review results, track ROI and suggest ways to continually improve operations efficiencies and resource utilization
  • Build and maintain relationships with suppliers, subcontractors, owners, and engineers to obtain better pricing, market information and future opportunities
What You\'ll Bring:
  • Bachelor\'s degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent with a minimum of five (5) years of significant demonstrated technical services and project coordination in construction materials
  • Demonstrated understanding of engineering theories and principles including knowledge of Engineering standards
  • Strong computer skills and knowledge including MS Office Suite
  • Project preparation and planning skills to identify and manage resources, funding, and scheduling issues. Project Management Professional Certification would be considered an asset
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to liaise with stakeholders including Senior Management
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Effective leadership skills to successfully: develop an effective and engaged team of contractors and suppliers; foster collaboration with stakeholders and other departments; promote innovation and creativity; and, anticipate and adapt to change
