Position Description:

At Barrick, we\'re building the world\'s most valued gold and copper company. We value safety and health above all else and we take personal responsibility and ownership as one team. We are committed to partnering with our host countries and communities to transform their natural resources into tangible benefits and mutual prosperity. And we communicate directly, honestly, and transparently.

We\'re now looking to recruit a highly motivated and energetic Digital Communications Specialist who\'s skilled in content creation. Based in our downtown Toronto office, this is a new role on our Corporate Communications and Investor Relations team that\'s being created to build on the success of our digital communications strategy.

Using a keen news sense, you\'ll find stories to tell from our operations in 18 countries and bring them to life online in an engaging manner. You\'ll also keep our global website and group intranet up-to-date and positioned as the central hubs of information for our external and internal stakeholders worldwide.

You\'ll be a self-starter and natural storyteller who can create content in a variety of formats, tailored by audience and channel, with at least three years of experience in a corporate environment. Reporting and writing sit at the heart of this role, but you\'ll be just as skilled at editing and publishing.

Responsibilities:

  • Plan, source, write, edit and proof-read content for group websites, social media, publications and other media, aligned with our brand and DNA.
  • Liaise with corporate departments and country-level communications teams to drive regular news content creation.
  • Build, maintain and typeset web pages using content management systems.
  • Handle requests from across the business to modify and create website content.
  • Ensure all website content is accurate, up to date and meets usability and accessibility standards.
  • Monitor what\'s being said online, identifying opportunities to interact.
  • Set KPIs, track and report on digital communications activities.
  • Research, analyze and recommend new digital strategies to enhance our storytelling.
  • Pitch in on occasion to support other activities run by the Corporate Communications and Investor Relations team, such as events and conferences.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor\'s degree or relevant qualifications in communications, public relations, journalism or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience developing successful communications in a hands-on role, especially corporate digital communications for websites and social media, either at an agency or in-house.
  • Excellent English-language writing, proof-reading and copyediting skills.
  • An eye for a story and an instinct for what makes compelling content for our varied audiences.
  • Strong organization and project-management skills, handling multiple priorities in a fast-paced and changing environment with strict deadlines.
  • Experience developing and maintaining responsive and accessible websites.
  • Clear attention to detail and an ability to build effective working relationships at all levels of the organization with colleagues across time zones.
  • Able to occasionally work outside of normal business hours, sometimes at short notice.
  • An understanding of the requirements and disclosure standards for a company listed on the Toronto and New York stock exchanges.
  • Knowledge of the mining sector, or a similar complex and global industry, along with an interest in international affairs.
  • Demonstrated experience working with Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft 365, HTML and CSS, and apps such as Google Analytics, Mailchimp and Sprout Social.
