Camps Director

At Elmwood School, summer is a time for discovery, growth, and connection. Our Summer Programs offer enriching experiences--from language immersion to athletics and creative exploration--that reflect the same commitment to curiosity, confidence, and community that define the Elmwood experience year-round.


We are seeking a Camp Director to lead the planning and delivery of engaging camp programming, including March Break and summer camps for students in Junior Kindergarten to Grade 8. This role calls for an energetic, organized, and relationship-focused professional who thrives on creating memorable experiences for students, families, and staff alike.


Key Responsibilities




Program Oversight & Operations


Lead the design, planning, and seamless execution of camp programs. Coordinate logistics of the camps, including scheduling for camp counsellors, coordinating supplies, meals, facilities, transportation and communicating with staff about camp logistics. Provide on-site supervision of staff and campers. Ensure that every element of the camp experience reflects Elmwood's standards of safety, inclusion, and excellence.

Staffing & Team Support


Partner with Principals to recruit, train, and supervise camp staff. Foster a supportive team environment that values collaboration, professionalism, and joy in camp programming. Facilitate training sessions for all Camp Counsellors and Supervisors, including a comprehensive orientation and ongoing support throughout the season. Ensure staff follow all camp policies and procedures Models effective leadership for Camp staff to create a strong team of responsible camp leaders and an inclusive environment for all camp staff, volunteers and participants. Promote a culture of care, accountability, and growth for both staff and participants Conduct staff meetings and provide ongoing support and evaluation.

Marketing & Outreach


Collaborate with the Communications team to develop and maintain promotional materials.
Represent Elmwooed's Summer Programs at events and in the community, inspiring families to join our vibrant summer community.

Financial & Administrative Management


Manage budgets, contracts, payments, and registration systems with accuracy and efficiency in partnership with Senior Leadership. Uphold Elmwood's commitment to transparency and responsible stewardship of resources.

Program Development & Relationship Building


Serve as the primary contact for families, partners, and external providers. Nurture strong relationships built on trust, communication, and responsiveness. Coordinate with parents to communicate logistical information about the camp program. Address and resolve challenges related to camper or staff wellbeing. Coaches camp staff on effective facilitation and programming, including motivating and inspiring them to be fully engaged in delivering the camp curricula.
Contribute to the ongoing evolution of Elmwood's Summer Programs by developing new offerings and enhancing existing ones.

Qualifications




Education:

A college diploma or university degree in a related field.


Experience:


Demonstrated success managing camps, youth programs, or educational events. Experience leading teams and coordinating multifaceted operations.





Skills and Attributes:


Demonstrated leadership capacity. Proven ability to motivate and coach others. Ability to foster teamwork and accountability. Strong organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills. Strong organizational ability. Must be able to work independently and take initiative. Requires the ability to make decisions and exercise good judgment. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively across teams. Experience with budgeting, registration systems, and administrative processes preferred. Positive, enthusiastic and passionate about the learning experiences of children. Highly motivated, proactive, energetic and comfortable in a wide range of situations where interacting with customers and members of the public is required.
First-aid/CPR, concussion training and other health & safety workplace certifications must be completed before commencing the role.

Working Conditions




On-campus presence is required throughout March Break, June, July, and August. Flexibility in hours may be necessary to support summer operations. The role involves some physical activity. Flexibility, energy, and a hands-on, team-oriented mindset are essential during the camp season.
