The Opportunity:
Branksome Hall Day Camps (BHDC) provides high-quality, comprehensive programs that offer opportunities for fun, friendships, and learning to over 1,400 campers each summer.
Reporting to the Director, Camps & Slingshot, the Assistant Director, Summer Camps plays a vital role in ensuring the experiences in both of these programs are exceptional. This position will assist the Director in the planning, execution, and overall management of our camp operations, always keeping in line with BHDC's mission and values. Responsibilities span everything from staff recruitment and training to managing program logistics and fostering positive relationships with campers, parents, and staff. This role will also contribute significantly to creating a fun and safe environment while supporting various administrative and growth initiatives.
This is a full-year role, with BHDC running from June-August of each year.
Key Accountabilities include, but are not limited to:
Collaborate with the camps team to evaluate and enhance curriculum and lead the development of program plans and schedules
Create and manage a framework for effective and proactive parent communication regarding program details and camper progress to cultivate parent relationships, while maintaining a visible presence in daily camp operations
Use key metrics and data analytics to evaluate the program and marketing efforts
Identify growth opportunities and provide input on external partnerships and enhance operations
Serve as the first point of contact for behavior management and incidents, escalating issues to the Director, Camps & Slingshot as needed
Lead impactful marketing strategies and initiatives like recruitment events, website content, social media campaigns, and promotional opportunities, while managing camper recruitment.
Support the Director with talent acquisition efforts, including scheduling, interviewing, onboarding, and training camp staff
Create staff schedules, conduct performance management, and champion staff appreciation and team-building
Track and manage logistical planning to ensure seamless execution of resources like technology, camp supplies, food, and facilities
Serve as a positive role model, consistently demonstrating professionalism and providing mentorship to camp staff, ensuring all staff adhere to policies and procedures, and championing diversity and social inclusion
Support the programming, planning, logistics, and coordination of the Slingshot Innovation Academy as needed
Candidate Profile:
Post-secondary degree, diploma, or training in education, recreation, social work or related field
3-5 years experience in a management or leadership role within a camp or recreational setting, with similar scope and responsibility
Experience in staff recruitment, training, supervision, and performance management
Current Standard First Aid with CPR-C certification (or willingness to obtain prior to start)
Experience/skills in various camp program areas (Arts, Sports, STEM, etc.)
Training in behaviour management/emotional regulation/camper support a strong asset
Working knowledge of Campbrain and Google suite an asset
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to effectively engage with campers, parents, staff, and external partners
Strong leadership and team-building skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire staff
Proven problem-solving and decision-making capabilities, especially in high-pressure situations
A high degree of adaptability and flexibility to respond to the dynamic nature of camp operations
Strong understanding of health and safety regulations and risk management in a camp setting
Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as required by the camp operations

Target Hiring Range: $64,153.44 - $80,191.80
