IDEA Lab Kids St. Albert delivers hands-on STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Math) programs for kids ages 5-12 through after-school and evening classes, camps, homeschool workshops, birthday parties, PD-day camps, outreach programs, and special events. We are growing, and we are looking for an Assistant Director to help run daily operations and prepare the center for the next stage of expansion.
The Role
As Assistant Director, you will be responsible for day-to-day operations including managing staff, preparing programs, overseeing supplies and inventory, and ensuring smooth program delivery. You will also be the main point of contact for families and play a key role in building systems and processes to support growth.
This role works closely with:
The Owner, who focuses on marketing, partnerships, and expansion.
The Programs Manager (contractor), who assists with curriculum planning and design.
You will ensure programs are ready to run with staff, supplies, and systems in place to deliver them smoothly.
Key Responsibilities
Manage daily operations across after-school programs, camps, homeschool, birthday parties, PD-day camps, and Friday drop-ins.
Oversee staff onboarding, scheduling, training, and performance management.
Coordinate with the Programs Manager and ensure curriculum plans are prepared and classrooms are ready.
Ensure safety, sanitation, and compliance standards are met, especially in culinary programs.
Serve as the primary contact for families, handling inquiries, tours, and feedback.
Build and maintain positive relationships with schools, parent associations, and community organizations.
Oversee enrollment records, supply orders, purchasing, and receipts.
Support special projects including new program rollouts, transportation, and partnership initiatives and planning for future program offerings.
Qualifications
Strong leadership and management experience, ideally in education, childcare, recreation, or youth programming.
Experience supervising staff and managing daily operations.
Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills with children, families, and staff.
Comfortable with technology (Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, QuickBooks Time, and online management systems).
Background in education or related programming, recreation programs leadership, or business management is preferred.
ECE certification is an asset but not required.
What We Offer
Salary: $44,000-$50,000 per year, based on experience.
Benefits: 2 weeks vacation plus stat holidays, 3 paid personal or sick days, $1,500 annual Health Spending Account, professional development support, and program discounts.
Hybrid flexibility for admin tasks, with on-site presence required during core business hours.
A supportive and creative environment.
Growth path with opportunity to advance into a Director role as IDEA Lab expands.
