Since 1979, CISS has been a leading provider of Canadian summer camp programmes for international students. Our mission is to create meaningful learning experiences across Canada for international students, local families, and our team members, supporting them in their lifelong learning journeys.
CISS is currently looking for enthusiastic and hard-working individual to fill the Director position for our CISS residential programme. This programme is based at the University of Toronto's Trinity campus, where students receive 20 hours of English lessons each week and participate in a variety of activities and excursions. Activities take place in the afternoons and evenings, while excursions might be half-day or full-day trips to visit attractions in and around the city. Staff and students live on-site.
POSITION OVERVIEW
The Director is responsible for the overall leadership and management of the programme during the summer. This includes all aspects of camp operations, including programme implementation, budget management, and supervision of personnel and facilities.
While the programme itself runs from late June to mid-August, the Director must be available before the start of the programme to assist with pre-camp preparations, and familiarisation with site logistics, excursions, and curriculum planning. A detailed training manual and guidance from the CISS Head Office will be provided.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Leadership & Programme Management:
Oversee all aspects of camp operations, ensuring a safe, engaging, and well-organized programme.
Set a positive tone for staff and students, upholding CISS values.
Supervise and support staff, fostering a collaborative and professional work environment.
Act as the final decision-maker for all major issues at camp.
Oversee all administrative aspects of the lessons and teaching staff.
Staff & Student Management:
Lead staff training sessions and ongoing professional development.
Manage all staff schedules, ensuring adequate supervision and support.
Address and resolve behavioral incidents among both students and staff.
Conduct regular staff meetings to maintain clear communication and address concerns.
Programme Oversight:
Ensure the smooth execution of daily camp activities, excursions, and lessons.
Oversee student evaluations, feedback collection, and program adjustments.
Organize student orientation and programme briefings.
Ensure all students and staff adhere to CISS policies and procedures.
Logistics & Administration:
Manage budget, expenses, and purchasing of necessary camp supplies.
Liaise with site management to ensure effective coordination and problem resolution.
Oversee meal arrangements, dietary accommodations, and student wellness needs.
Supervise student arrivals and departures, ensuring a seamless transition.
Complete end-of-camp reports and documentation submissions.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
A degree in Education, Management, or a related field.
Experience in teaching and/or managing educational programs.
Proven staff leadership experience, preferably in a camp or educational setting.
Ability to live on-site for the duration of the programme.
Availability in the spring for pre-camp preparations, including training.
Strong ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Previous summer camp leadership experience.
First Aid and CPR certification.
A valid driver's license.

WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The role of Director is both physically and emotionally demanding. Directors should expect long hours, a fast-paced environment, and minimal downtime. Late nights or early mornings may be required, particularly for camper arrivals and departures.
Support and guidance will always be available from the Manager of Camp Operations.
