Position Summary

Reporting to the Program Coordinator, the Camp Director - Inclusion will assist in coordinating and implementing all inclusion services provided through the school holiday day section. Specific duties will include the following: provide orientation, training, supervision and evaluations of inclusion camp counsellors and volunteers; ensure adaptation of programs to meet the needs of registrants; liaise with families before and during the camp season to ensure a smooth transition of campers with disabilities; provide support to inclusion counsellors when needed; ensure there are effective communication systems in place in order to work effectively with other Camp Directors and Supervisors, peers, participants and the public. Administrative duties will include assisting with the preparation of payroll time sheets, ordering supplies and equipment, recording and tracking participation numbers, and scheduling inclusion counsellors.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work with families to gather information about the needs of their child and how the City can best accommodate them.
  • Ensure all camp supervisors are aware of children with disabilities attending their camps and assist them with program adaptations
  • Develop resources for Camp Supervisors to assist in the development and implementation of programming.
  • Purchase adaptive program equipment and supplies
  • Develop effective communication systems between staff and parents/guardians
  • Assist with the development of related training modules required for supervisor and counsellor training
  • Provide ongoing supervision and evaluation of the inclusion counsellors.
  • Work with the Inclusion Services Assistant and Program Coordinator to monitor the number of children registered in the Camp Programs and ensure appropriate matches between inclusion counsellors and participants.
  • Regularly visit and interact with campers and inclusion counsellors
  • Provide support and suggestions to camp staff when severe behavioral issues arise with any camper
  • Provide an end of season statistical report on participant numbers
  • Complete all necessary forms (accident, incident, daily report, risk management) in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Represent the City of Richmond Hill by presenting yourself in a cooperative, organized, enthusiastic and well-groomed manner.
  • Wear assigned uniform and name tag.
  • Attend scheduled staff meetings and staff training sessions.
  • Know and understand the policies and procedures of the Community Services Department.
  • Maintain excellent public relations at all time, with staff and the public.
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Education and Experience
  • High School Diploma
  • The preferred candidate will be enrolled in post-secondary studies related to working with people with a disability
  • Standard First Aid and CPR C Certification
  • Safe Management training is preferred
  • High Five PHCD Certification

  • Team player.
  • Superior organizational skills and the ability to consistently meet deadlines in a multitask environment.
  • Strong leadership, written and verbal communication, and organization skills.
  • Background knowledge on various disabilities
  • Previous related experience
  • Computer skills, including working with Microsoft Word and Excel, Internet Research, and Class
  • Must possess a valid Ontario Class "G" Driver\'s License, and have access to a vehicle for use on corporate business (mileage compensated) and will be required to provide proof of vehicle insurance upon hire
  • Requires satisfactory Police Vulnerable Sector Check
