About Opportunity
In partnership with the Resurrection Life Ministries, United for Literacy is delivering an engaging and culturally inclusive Summer Literacy Camp in Carberry. As a
Camp Counsellor
, you will work collaboratively with a small team to deliver indoor and outdoor literacy-based activities in a safe, supportive, and fun environment for children aged 5-12.
You will report directly to the Manitoba Community Coordinator.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare daily camp activities while following public health guidelines
Support participant registration and maintain daily attendance
Plan and facilitate literacy-embedded activities for small groups of children
Foster a positive learning environment that encourages reading and exploration
Engage families and community members in camp activities and events
Coordinate guest visits with local community members and caregivers
Maintain accurate records and collect feedback through surveys/testimonials
Promote the safety, inclusion, and wellbeing of all participants
Attend orientation, training, and evaluation sessions
Perform other related duties as required
Qualifications
Eligibility Requirements:
Must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person with refugee protection
Essential Skills and Attributes:
Friendly, positive, and approachable demeanor
Adaptable, responsible, and self-motivated team player
Excellent organizational, planning, and time-management skills
Strong interpersonal, conflict resolution, and problem-solving abilities
Experience working with children in group settings, particularly those with high needs o Ability to manage challenging behaviors with patience and professionalism
Assets:
Experience in an educational or camp setting
Valid First Aid and CPR certification
Screening and Selection
Candidates will undergo the following screening process:
Virtual interview
Reference checks (3 references required)
Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search (dated within 6 months of the start date) *United for Literacy will reimburse the cost of the CRC and VSC upon receipt submission.
Compensation & Work Conditions
Hourly Rate:
$19 per hour.
Schedule:
Monday to Friday | 35 hours/week for 8 weeks
