As the Refrigeration Mechanic you are responsible for general preventive maintenance in the areas of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration equipment in all Calgary Police Service (CPS) locations. Primary duties include:

Conduct preventive maintenance and perform comprehensive service on building systems and equipmentincluding HVAC systems, chillers, data centre cooling units, museum humidifiers, kitchen appliances, VAV boxes, and all designated safety componentswhile ensuring compliance with relevant regulatory bodies impacted by HVAC/Refrigeration operations. Perform seasonal system maintenance, including summer system preparation for cooling systems, coil cleaning, and winter system preparation for heating units. Perform combustion analysis on all gas fired HVAC equipment. Test and Calibrate safety devices for HVAC Systems. Ensure that the Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS), Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) and Hot Work Permits are administered and used appropriately. Perform administrative tasks, such as provide safety talks, participate on committees and attend meetings. Monitor and respond to Building Management System (BMS). Review facility drawings and Operations & Maintenance (O&M) documentation to verify the accuracy of HVAC system information.


Qualifications

Refrigeration & Air Conditioning Mechanic certificate, Journeyperson Red Seal Trade Certificate recognized by the Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training. Minimum of 4 years as a licensed commercial HVAC/R experience is required. Extensive knowledge of Heating/Cooling systems, Refrigeration, and Controls is required. Competencies of this position include: coaching and development, communication, efficiency and thoroughness, planning and prioritizing/visionary, relationship building, self-confidence, service orientation.

Working Conditions:

Exposure to a number of disagreeable working conditions and hazards are present.

Pre-employment Requirements

An enhanced security clearance will be conducted. Successful applicants must provide proof of qualifications. Education obtained from out of country must have or be able to obtain, an Education Credential Assessment (ECA) for confirmation of equivalent credentials. A valid Class 5 Driver's License (or provincial equivalent) with no more than 6 demerits (current within 3 months) and no current suspensions or charges pending.


Pre-employment Drug Test:

An offer of employment for this position will be conditional on an applicant passing a pre-employment drug test. This test assesses for use of drugs including cannabis. Failure to pass a pre-employment drug test may prevent an applicant from being hired into any safety sensitive position for a period of up to twelve months.

Compensation: Pay Grade 24 $45.95 - 50.89 per hour
Days of Work: This position typically works a 5 day
work week, with 1 day off in each 3 week cycle.

Hours of work: Non-standard 38 hour work week
