Reporting to the Chief Strategy Officer and General Counsel, the Executive Director - Communications and Intergovernmental Relations, provides leadership and strategic direction to the Communications and Intergovernmental Relations Division. As a member of the Executive Leadership Team (ELT), you will participate in the formulation of the Service's overall planning process and development of policies, procedures, strategies, and objectives for the Calgary Police Service (CPS). Primary responsibilities include:

Lead, mentor, and develop a high performing team, and provide strategic advice and guidance to senior leaders across all CPS Bureaus on communications and intergovernmental relations matters. Ensure timely, accurate, and consistent communication between the Chief, ELT, and direct reports; collaborate with the ELT to set and execute CPS's strategic direction and promote organizational priorities. Develop and oversee comprehensive internal and external communications strategies, managing diverse functions including media relations, public affairs, issues management, digital content, social media, graphics, and web design, ensuring alignment with CPS priorities and industry best practices. Ensure the use of modern, innovative tools to effectively engage Calgary's diverse communities. Working closely and collaboratively with the Calgary Police Commission, establish and lead a CPS Intergovernmental Relations Program, including legislative monitoring, advocacy strategies, coordination of CPS participation in committees and boards, and support for executive engagement with government officials. Advise on critical governmental issues impacting CPS and policing.


Qualifications

A bachelor's degree in communications, political science, business administration, or related field. Minimum of 10 years combined progressive communications and intergovernmental or government relations experience. A minimum of 5 years of recent leadership experience, including oversight of direct reports. Experience working in a unionized environment, public sector, law enforcement and/or justice-based environment is considered an asset. Demonstrated knowledge and competency in change management, communication, leadership, managing resources, planning and prioritizing, relationship building, and strategic thinking.

Pre-employment Requirements

An enhanced security clearance will be conducted. Successful applicants must provide proof of qualifications. Education obtained from out of country must have or be able to obtain, an Education Credential Assessment (ECA) for confirmation of equivalent credentials.

Compensation: Level M4 $187,000 - 234,700 per annum
Days of Work: This position typically works a 5 day
work week earning 1 day off in each 3 week cycle.

Hours of work: Standard 35 hour work week
