Job Purpose

Working within the product development team, the thermal analyst Engineer will actively participate in the design, manufacturing, and integration of the various systems of an electric truck. Through innovative methodologies, the candidate would help the group to develop new products by the taking advantage of powerful multi-physic simulation tools.

From busbar sizing to junction box cooling bed and full truck thermal management, the candidate will require to work closely with all the teams inside Dana Laval (and outside) from the preliminary design to the validations of the products. Candidate will also take an active role in testing and collecting data to correlate numerical models to validate preliminary assumption, build trust in simulation validation and increase analysis efficiency for future projects.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Act like a reference during preliminary design phase
  • Ensure thermal and flow requirements are well known and mastered by the team
  • Produce simulation that will give knowledge input to the design team
  • Apply 0D-3D thermal and CFD analysis tools to design and validate products at the component and system level
  • Coordinate testing activities to help validate simulation results
  • Compare modelled and measured behaviors as reference data become available
  • Propose new simulation methodologies and tools to improve simulation efficiency
  • Propose improvements to enhance the design and manufacturing processes
  • Contribute to the development of novel techniques in the field of CFD modelling, components sizing, and vehicle\'s sub-system thermal management assessment practices
  • Produce final CEA simulation, documentation, and conclusion
  • Create and/or review reports, presentations and releases as required
  • Attend meetings, present results, and perform demonstrations as required
EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Have a university degree in an area equivalent to Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
  • Have an understanding of the coolant system of electric vehicles
  • Demonstrate proficiency in the prediction and simulation of thermal fluids
  • Have an interest in hands on testing as it applies to heat exchangers
  • Experience with commercial CFD tools like Fluent, Star CCM+, open foam or other
  • Be proficient in computer programming in a language such as Python, C/C++ or Matlab/Simulink
  • Member of the Ordre des Ing\xc3\xa9nieurs du Quebec (OIQ)
  • Experience in 3D design and technical drawing (Solidworks and/or NX)
  • Ability to manage interpersonal and supplier relations
  • Experience in electric vehicle design is an asset
  • Experience in personnel and/or project management is an asset
  • Bilingual - Fluent in both English and French
