SUCCESSFUL APPLICANT WILL BE WORKING OUT OF OUR HQ IN BRIGHTON ONTARIO. Our Prefab CAD Technician will work in Revit, coordinating with our internal and external architectural and design teams, to create 3D structural models of projects, prepare fabrication drawings, and related technical information in collaboration with our multidisciplinary engineering and design teams. They accomplish this using their exceptional skills in communication, multi-tasking, and Autodesk Revit BIM software knowledge and experience. In addition, they are responsible for providing direction and support to the Design Team by ensuring projects have been appropriately onboarded, reviewed against SLH Quality Assurance standards, and handed off to the Production Operations Manager for fabrication. Duties and Accountabilities
Produce detailed drawings of exterior and interior structural arrangements for our projects using Autodesk Revit.
Finish and duplicate drawings and documentation packages according to required mediums and specifications for reproduction.
Draw rough and detailed scale plans for foundations, buildings, and structures, based on preliminary concepts, sketches, engineering calculations, specification sheets, and other data.
Check dimensions of materials to be used and assign numbers to lists of materials.
Determine procedures and instructions to be followed, according to design specifications and quantity of required materials.
Liaise with our partnered engineers, architects, and designers to develop the 2D and 3D models according to the building requirements, and client wants.
Explain drawings to the Production team and provide adjustments as necessary.
Determine quality, cost, strength, and quantity of required materials, and enter figures on Bills of Materials.
Calculate weights and volumes, and their implications for technical aspects of designs.
Review rough sketches, drawings, specifications, and other engineering data to ensure that they conform to design concepts.
Liaise with the Project Coordinator to collect and enter project data into the relevant project information cards for use by other Drafting Technicians throughout the duration of the project.
Coordinate project handoff activities with the Production Operations Manager to ensure that all relevant information, timelines, and special requests behind assemblies are communicated before the Production team commences fabrication.
Competencies and Qualifications The ideal candidate for this position has a minimum of 2 to 3 years of experience with the Autodesk Revit BIM software, knowledge of key engineering concepts, is highly technical with computer systems, and has exceptional communication, multi-tasking, and leadership skills. Finally, the candidate should possess a diploma in Construction Engineering Technology, and/or a Certified Engineering Technologist designation, or working towards one. In lieu of a post-secondary education in this field, several years of construction experience with a demonstrated understanding of key engineering concepts will be considered an equivalent.
