About Our Opportunity: Northern RNA is currently recruiting for a Buyer. The candidate will be able to prepare, process, and provide services and technical expertise to support all procurement and inventory planning functions effectively. The ideal candidate brings abundant experience in procurement and can create order out of chaos, move procurement functions from transactional to strategic, and ultimately help Northern RNA stage for long-term success. Primary Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the procurement of commodities, equipment and services of technical nature for business units throughout the organization.
  • Assist in material selection, negotiate contract terms and conditions before Purchase Order award, and facilitate contract development.
  • Coordinate inbound shipments. Monitor and follow up with suppliers and internal teams regarding order status, material availability, and potential out-of-stock events.
  • Maintain contracts and relationships with vendors.
  • Participate in developing inventory policy and maintaining material inventory and availability, which may involve utilizing advanced analytical tools and knowledge.
  • Develop inventory management processes to optimize inventory levels and reduce the total life cycle costs, ensuring the integrity of inventory.
  • Perform pre-screening activities and coordinate vendor qualification program. Assist in the material risk assessment.
  • Develop and implement a vendor performance management program.
  • Realign procurement practices with ERP workflow (MS Dynamic 365 Business Central).
  • Assist in the development of procurement-related Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Analyze and evaluate the Bill of Material to determine the technical and quality requirements to be applied.
  • Other duties may be assigned by the department manager.
Education, Work Experience, Knowledge, and Skills: Formal Education:
  • Post-secondary degree, preferably in Business, Supply Chain Management or a related technical field.
  • Professional designation in supply chain or procurement field - CIPS, CSCP, CPSM, SCMP, or working toward a Supply Chain designation.
Work Experience:
  • A minimum of 4 years of procurement experience of technical nature.
  • Previous experience working in a Contract Manufacturing Organization (CMO), or a third-party testing facility, or a biotechnology company performing similar activities is preferred.
  • Previous experience with GDP, GDocP, GMP an asset.
Knowledge and Skills:
  • Comfortable writing and reading technical information.
  • Strong English written and oral communication.
  • Experience with an ERP system, in particular procurement, material management, and inventory planning functionalities.
  • Computer skills (Microsoft Word and Excel).
  • Basic understanding of quality management in a manufacturing setting.
  • Independent, detail-oriented, self-starter with excellent analytical skills.
  • A high level of critical thinking, and the ability to multitask and succeed in a team environment.
Working conditions:
  • Physical environment: The incumbent is usually located in an office environment but may be required to visit manufacturer or suppliers? sites where safety equipment may be necessary.
  • Physical effort: Much of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position, and there is frequent opportunity to move about.
  • Sensory Attention: A considerable amount of reading and analysis of data, vendor proposals, supply market reviews, professional literature and publications. Information, data, and communication means are transferred digitally, requiring most of the working hours read from the computer screen concentration and attention to detail.
  • Mental Pressures: There is a considerable need to balance multiple conflicting priorities when working with various departments and projects. Safety and compliance issues are sensitive and, at times highly confidential. Many times, these situations are stressful for the employees.
