experienced, detail-oriented, and dedicated Butchers
to join our skilled team.
Position Overview
As a
Butcher
at Mrakovic Fine Foods Inc., you will be responsible for the accurate and efficient preparation of meat products, including cutting, trimming, deboning, portioning, and packaging. This position requires a strong understanding of meat anatomy, safe knife handling, and food safety standards.
You'll be part of a collaborative team that works hard to deliver safe, high-quality meat products to our customers every day.
Detailed Duties & Responsibilities
Cutting and Processing:
Cut, trim, debone, slice, and grind various meats (beef, pork, poultry, lamb, etc.) according to production schedules and specifications
Separate meat and by-products into specified containers for further processing or packaging
Operate and maintain knives, saws, grinders, slicers, and other specialized butchering equipment safely and effectively
Prepare cuts of meat for packaging, display, or further processing
Ensure uniformity, quality, and precision in each cut
Quality Control and Inspection:
Examine meat for defects, bruises, or unwanted fat and remove them to maintain quality
Check product freshness, color, texture, and temperature before, during, and after processing
Follow established company standards to maintain consistent product quality and yield
Report any quality issues or mechanical malfunctions immediately to supervisors
Food Safety and Sanitation:
Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of all work areas, tools, and equipment in accordance with HACCP and CFIA regulations
Follow company and government food safety procedures at all times
Wear and maintain proper personal protective equipment (PPE)
Handle and store meat products safely to prevent cross-contamination or spoilage
Teamwork and Production:
Work as part of a production line to meet daily output and yield goals
Collaborate with team members to ensure efficiency, accuracy, and safety
Communicate effectively with supervisors and coworkers regarding workflow, equipment, or quality issues
Assist with training new employees in proper cutting and sanitation techniques
Additional Responsibilities:
Follow daily production schedules and instructions from the production manager
Assist in receiving, inspecting, and storing incoming raw materials
Comply with company policies on workplace health and safety
Perform other related duties as assigned by management
Qualifications & Skills
Minimum
1-2 years of experience
as a butcher or meat cutter (industrial or retail)
Strong knowledge of meat cuts, yield management, and butchering techniques
Ability to read and follow production sheets and specifications
Capable of working in refrigerated environments (0-4C) for extended periods
Physically able to lift up to
50 lbs
and stand for long shifts
Excellent attention to detail, hand-eye coordination, and knife-handling skills
Understanding of
HACCP
,
CFIA
, and general food safety practices
Team-oriented attitude with good communication and time-management skills
