Your Role and Responsibilities

IBM\'s state-of-the-art Client Innovation Centre (CIC) opened in Nova Scotia in March 2013 and is the first of its kind in Canada. As part of this transformation directive, IBM Canada has recently assumed operational responsibility for the General Insurance Statistical Agency\xe2\x80\x99s third-party provider, the Statistical Service Provider (SSP). The GISA SSP collects insurance data and transforms the data into exhibits and reports that are used by regulatory authorities and the Canadian insurance industry. GISA operates as a statistical agent on behalf of the insurance regulatory authorities of Alberta, New Brunswick, Newfoundland & Labrador, the Northwest Territories, Nova Scotia, Nunavut, Ontario, Prince Edward Island and Yukon.

IBM Canada was selected as GISA\xe2\x80\x99s new SSP following a competitive Request for Proposal. GISA and IBM Canada worked together to transition services as of October 1, 2023, from the incumbent SSP, while in parallel are planning the implementation of a transformed technology platform. The new platform will be a key enabler of GISA\xe2\x80\x99s business transformation and enhanced service delivery to regulators and industry stakeholders.

Your Role and Responsibilities

As part of the broader Industry Transformation \xe2\x80\x93 Insurance Practice, you will be a member of a growing team and expanding client base within the Canadian Insurance industry. More specifically, as the Operations Director, you will be the primary lead role within the GISA SSP organization, responsible to:
  • Provide oversight to all day-to-day operations and staff of the GISA SSP
  • Interact and coordinate scheduling and outputs with GISA executives, Regulatory authorities, and industry stakeholders \xe2\x80\x93 being seen as the main point of contact for senior leadership members across the industry
  • Support the Financial Management workstream with approval of invoices, AR, bank reconciliation, etc. on behalf of the client
  • Be responsible for the overall successful client delivery to GISA and the industry by directing and support the efforts of the larger GISA SSP team
  • Represent the GISA SSP and IBM simultaneously in all interactions with the industry
  • Bring an entrepreneurial spirit and thoughtful approach to leadership
  • Train / mentor junior resources as they build expertise within the program
  • Work as a key member of a broader engagement team focused on continuously delivering for GISA as a client
Required Technical and Professional Expertise
  • 10+ years of experience in Property & Casualty - Automobile Insurance industry in Canada
  • 10+ years of experience leading larger (20+), multidisciplinary teams
  • 5+ years of experience in Operations and Financial Management
  • 5+ years of experience in traditional consulting organizations \xe2\x80\x93 with direct client relations experience
  • Direct experience working with Automobile Statistical Plan (ASP) data
  • Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree in Commerce, Computer Science or Engineering (or equivalent)
Preferred Technical and Professional Expertise
  • CPA designation (Preferred)
