Position Title Business Partner, People & Culture
Required Qualifications

Your accomplishments and dazzling proficiencies:

  • Completion of a university Bachelor\'s degree in Human Resources Management, Industrial Relations, Organizational Development, Social Sciences, Business Administration, Public Administration, or other relevant discipline.
  • Chartered Professional in Human Resources (CPHR) designation is considered an asset
  • Minimum five years of related experience in a unionized environment. Public sector experience is considered an asset
  • A high level of integrity, confidentiality and accountability and demonstrated emotional intelligence with effective oral and written communications & presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective and productive relationships with key internal stakeholders such as employees/leaders, unions/professional associations, as well as external contacts. Excellent interpersonal and relationship management and building skills.
  • Ability to apply comprehensive and current human resources management principles and practices to respond to complex problems and develop creative, effective, and strategic solutions.
  • Strong business acumen, ability to work effectively with a diverse workforce.
  • Solid understanding applicable employment and human rights legislation (e.g. Employment Standards Act, Labour Relations Act, Occupational Health & Safety Act, and the Human Rights Code as well as Post Secondary Learning Act and other Higher Education related legislation)
  • Proficient in human resources theory and related practice (e.g. job design and job evaluation, compensation and benefits, recruitment and selection, labour and/or industrial relations, training and development)
  • Proven ability to apply and interpret a range of legislation, policies, and collective agreements and with assessing stakeholder needs and diagnosing underlying issues.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently organize workload in a customer-focused environment that includes high volume, frequent interruptions, multiple tasks, and shifting priorities and deadlines with excellent time management.
  • Effective coaching, influencing, facilitation, conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to identify individual and team needs with respect to employee relations, assess training when needed.
  • Demonstrated conceptual, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of basic business mathematics and statistics.
  • Ability to review and synthesize data and information accurately.
A combination of education, experience, and training deemed acceptable to the college may be considered.

How you\'ll make a difference:

Business Partnership for Designated Business Units
  • Leads, develops, and delivers strategic People & Culture goals and programs to assigned business units and consults with business unit leaders to provide guidance where appropriate.
  • Provides strategic advice and direction that aligns with the college strategies, programs, plans and procedures related to the business unit needs.
  • Analyzes trends and metrics in partnership with the People & Culture team members to develop solutions, programs, and policies.
  • Collaborates closely with leaders and employees, fostering improved work relationships, heightened morale, and enhanced productivity and retention.
Labour & Employee Relations
  • Fosters and maintains positive and effective problem-solving relationships with all employees of the College both unionized and non-unionized that reflect the College\'s commitment to a positive, and collaborative labour relations environment.
  • Provides business unit leaders with day-to-day performance management guidance, expert recommendations/solutions, collective agreement interpretations, strategic employee and labour relations advice and full-scale support with workplace investigations, progressive discipline, layoffs/recalls, terminations, and grievances.
  • Delivers information and support to the business unit leader in the grievance process.
Talent Management & Retention
  • Co-ordinate with the Recruitment & Onboarding Specialist, pre and post recruitment and selection activities including participation in interviews as needed.
  • Provides advice and support to business unit leaders as well as the Recruitment & Onboarding Specialist in the recruitment function including conducting needs assessments and drafting job descriptions; job evaluations/classifications.
  • Provide a source of information, expertise, and advice to employees on the provision of a comprehensive employee benefits package including salary, hours, pension, leave, health & benefits.
Organizational Effectiveness
  • Reviews and analyzes exit interview data and prepares recommendations for changes to policies and practices and works with the Associate Director, People & Culture on identified gaps or issues.
  • Coordinates the College\'s employee related programs to ensure they meet the developmental and training needs of new and existing employees.
Change Management
  • Understands the impact to employees and leadership during times of organizational change and provides consultation to mitigate the impacts.
  • Assists Executive, Deans, Directors, and Managers in change initiatives.
Classification & Compensation
  • Provides advice and support to leaders in ensuring positions are appropriately classified as well as advice on strategies to improve classification and compensation practices, procedures, and policies.
  • Collaborates with Recruitment & Onboarding Specialist and Deans/Chairs to provide the initial grid placement for Faculty hires.
