Your opportunity:

The Center for Entrepreneurship (previously known as the Impact Centre) in the Faculty of Arts & Scienceentrepreneurship hub working collaboratively with academic departments, college programs, centers, institutes and schools to serve undergraduate students, graduate students, faculty and alumni. It is built on six pillars of activity: research; academic courses; co-curricular programming; new venture creation, growth and scaling; and community engagement. The Centre strives build an entrepreneurial culture throughout A&S by incorporating a central theme of instilling an entrepreneurial mindset and bias toward action. In 2023, the Centre for Entrepreneurship will move to a dedicated space on the 6th floor of the new Schwartz Reisman Innovation Centre West

Under the general direction of the Vice Dean, Research, the Business Officer is responsible for overseeing the Centre of Entrepreneurship\'s business and financial resources, budgeting and payroll, and facilities and space management. The incumbent is responsible for the implementation of all aspects of the administration of the Department\'sfinancial resources include providing advice, guidance, and recommendations to the Chair on budget matters, by allocating, forecasting, and planning, the department\'s finances and assisting in the formulation of sound financial procedures and practices. The Business Officer will also be responsible for establishing administrative procedures and implementing best practices in the organization. Daily management of the Department\'s administration, such as preparing background material for the Vice Dean, composing correspondences, preparing complex reports and other materials for circulation, and coordinates and overseeing schedules/calendars.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Forecasting, planning and monitoring multiple complex budgets
  • Making recommendations on budget allocations involving multiple sources of revenue and/or recoveries
  • Monitoring department budget to ensure expenditures remain within budgeted allocations
  • Applying the University Guide to Financial Management and other applicable policies, agency and regulatory requirements
  • Implementing plans and process improvements for financial administration activities
  • Implementing plans and process improvements for administrative workflow
  • Processing payroll
  • Directing the activities of a group of staff-appointed employees all performing a similar function
Essential Qualifications:
  • Bachelor\'s Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
  • Minimum four years of recent and related experience, preferably in a university setting
  • Demonstrated experience administering a complex work unit; significant financial management experience including forecasting, managing, analysing, reconciling and reporting on operating budgets, research grants and restricted funds
  • Experience administering policies, procedures and collective agreements; and knowledge of U of T policies andprocedures or other similar policies
  • Experience preparing and monitoring cyclical schedules with upcoming events and deadlines, developing office procedures and maintaining an efficient office work flow
  • Experience with maintaining all financial and personnel records, and reconciling monthly financial activity and payroll distribution.
  • Experience working with procurement services, office planning and space issues
  • Experience providing administrative support to a senior administrator including support for outreach and fundraising activities
  • Strong knowledge of HRIS and FIS and/or other related financial and payroll system
  • Extensive knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access) and working with databases
  • Experience supervising staff members
