About the Organization
The Red Road Healing Society - Restoring Home Fires is an Indigenous-led organization dedicated to healing, housing, and community wellness. Through the Restoring Home Fires Housing Department, we act as the Indigenous Community Entity responsible for distributing federal funding to Indigenous Housing Agencies. These partnerships support safe, culturally grounded housing and essential services for Indigenous and non-Indigenous individuals and families. The organization is guided by the principles of relational accountability, respect, and community collaboration, working in alignment with the vision of ending homelessness in Edmonton through Indigenous-led solutions.
Position Overview
The Business Manager (Accountant) provides strategic and operational leadership for the business management functions of the Restoring Home Fires Housing Department. The successful candidate will be a Registered Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) in good standing and will oversee accounting operations, financial reporting, compliance, and business planning across programs and departments. Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated experience in federal and provincial contracting, Indigenous community engagement, and non-profit business management.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee all business operations, including financial systems, reporting, and fiduciary accountability.
Prepare accurate and timely quarterly and annual financial statements and reports for internal leadership, funders, and regulatory bodies.
Lead budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning processes in coordination with senior management.
Monitor and analyze program budgets to ensure alignment with contractual, funder, and organizational requirements.
Maintain compliance with federal, provincial, and funder financial regulations, as well as internal policies.
Manage and maintain accounting records in accordance with Canadian accounting standards (ASPE/IFRS).
Support annual audits and liaise with external auditors, government representatives, and funding partners as required.
Oversee the financial administration of grant funding, housing programs, and contractual obligations, ensuring timely and accurate funder reporting.
Provide financial analysis, risk assessment, and strategic recommendations to support growth, sustainability, and community impact.
Qualifications
Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation in good standing.
Post-secondary degree or diploma in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
Minimum three years of progressive accounting or financial management experience.
Strong understanding of Canadian accounting standards (ASPE/IFRS) and non-profit financial requirements.
Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
Exceptional analytical, organizational, and time management abilities.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments.
Candidates with equivalent education and experience will be considered.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working with Indigenous communities, non-profit organizations, or housing programs.
Familiarity with government funding models, grants, and housing-related financial reporting.
Cultural competency and the ability to work respectfully within Indigenous governance and service frameworks.
Demonstrated experience in financial leadership within community-based or Indigenous-led organizations.
Compensation and Benefits
Annual salary between $105,000 and $120,000 CAD.
