Business Intelligence Team Lead - Remote


Position Overview



As a key member of the Data Management & Analytics (DMA) team, the Business Intelligence Lead will be responsible for managing business intelligence requests, and as team grows leading business intelligence development team members. This will be a very hands-on role, involving a fair amount of design, and development of BI semantic models, and BI reports/dashboards. This will include acting as technical product owner of Power BI.

  • This is a remote position and role may also work on tasks from either Data team, or Reporting team, as required. As we transition from more traditional reporting this position will be become a full-time BI position, and I expect team will grow. This will be dependent on success on BI initiative.
  • this role may use resources from other DMA teams if required for major initiatives



This role will work closely with internal customers, report development team lead, and data team members. Role will report to Manager of Data Management & Analytics.


Responsibilities


  • Lead business intelligence initiatives to design, and develop of BI semantic models, and Power BI reports and dashboards using data sourced from our ERP system (Unit 4 ERP), and various other sources. This is a hands-on role requiring lead to be an active team member working on team tasks\'projects.
  • Manage team\xe2\x80\x99s work queue (Gatekeeper for requests and support)
    • Filter requests
    • Determine the best data source for a request.
    • Determine the best tool for a request (dependent on source, and type of report required)
    • Assign work based on skillset, availability, and personnel training\'transitioning plans.
  • Manage BI internal initiatives\'projects, including meeting with external parties.
  • Pass on any advanced SQL code through to the database team for code review.
  • Mentor team.
  • Promote best practices for the team.
  • Enforce team standards and policies.
  • Perform development\'code review for the team as appropriate.


  • Meet with user groups to gather detailed BI requirements
  • Turn requirements into dimensional data models
  • Datamart (DM) Design
  • Document data source to target mappings
  • Track and forward any data elements requested that cannot be sourced from Data Warehouse (DW) to the data team.
  • Design and develop Power BI reports for project initiatives
  • Design and develop Power BI Dataset sourced from non-DW\'DM sources
    • Using advanced Power Query
    • Using advanced DAX
  • Design and develop Power BI Dataflow
  • Design and develop built for purpose BI semantic model
  • Design and develop Corporate Self-Service BI semantic models from all sources
    • SSAS Tabular models
    • SSAS Cubes \xe2\x80\x93 if the need arises
  • Design and develop E(T)L for DM
  • DM performance tuning
  • Support of user\'reporting team\xe2\x80\x99s use of BI semantic models and data marts
  • Support of Direct Intelligence\'Travel Optics BI semantic model (Qlik Sense)
  • Support of BI reports and dashboards



Basic Qualifications


  • Minimum 5 years of experience in business intelligence and\'or data warehousing
  • Technical skills
    • Detailed understanding of DW concepts
    • Dimensional data modeling
    • Logical data mart (DM) design
    • Advanced SSAS tabular design and implementation
    • SSAS performance tuning
    • Advanced Power BI model design and implementation
    • Advanced Power BI visualization skills
    • Advanced Power Query
    • Basic M language
    • Advanced DAX
    • Advanced SQL query skills
    • T-SQL Development including stored procedures, udfs, views, and tables.
    • Basic SQL performance tuning
    • Basic SQL trouble shooting
    • SSIS\'Cloud Data Factory for moving data from data warehouse into data marts or BI semantic models as required

  • Must be able to lawfully work within the US\'Canada and have unrestricted work authorization for US\'Canada.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Degree in business, computer science, or engineering or a related discipline
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in lead\'management role

  • Basic functional understanding of travel, and finance\'accounting
