The Opportunity
The is one of the flagship programs of Banff Centre. As one of the world's pre-eminent mountain festivals - and a co-founder of the International Alliance for Mountain Film -- the Festival began 50 years ago in the small Rocky Mountain town of Banff, Alberta. What began as a one-day festival of climbing films has now blossomed into a nine-day event in Banff that explores and celebrates what Mountain Culture means to people around the world. Events include film screenings; film, book, and photography competitions; a filmmaking workshop; a mountain marketplace; and a year-round .
The Business Development Lead supports the strategy and execution of Mountain Culture objectives, primarily the Banff Centre Mountain Film Festival World Tour and Banff on Demand programs. Working closely with the World Tour Manager, Festival Manager and the Director of Mountain Culture, this position develops increased and new business for Mountain Culture resulting in increased revenues.
Roles and Responsibilities
Reporting to World Tour Manager, below are some key accountabilities:
Contacts, Communication and New Business

• Works proactively with World Tour Manager and Festival Manager on business strategy including annual Banff On Demand strategy.
• Identifies and researches new global markets and potential partners for the World Tour for both live and digital delivery
• Actively recruits new World Tour hosts in promising markets.
• Acts as main contact for new World Tour host onboarding and troubleshooting.
• In conjunction with Event Specialists, provides enhanced support for our existing tour hosts to improve their screenings.
• Assists with annual individual debriefs with hosts as requested.
• Leads and plans annual Tour Host webinars
• Creates tour host onboarding documents.
• Engages in extensive internal contact with staff of other departments concerning the Banff on Demand platform.
• Works with Event Specialists on Tour Host troubleshooting and facilitates communication with other Banff Centre departments, employing effective problem-solving methods in order to resolve issues and concerns.
• Develops and builds new business relationships for Banff on Demand platform.
• Works as World Tour and Banff on Demand liaison with Banff Centre marketing team.
• Ensures that World Tour and Banff on Demand programs operate within Banff Centre policies, procedures, and guidelines.
• Attends and evaluates World Tour screenings as assigned.
• Offers Banff on Demand customer support as required.
• Leads online platform needs for international World Tour hosts.

Programming

• Leads annual programming review from feedback provided by World Tour audience through the World Tour contest data, World Tour host post-event reports and Banff on Demand customer communication.
• Provides input into the determination of the World Tour film programs as well as all Banff on Demand programming.
• Works with Film and Event Specialist - World Tour to curate Banff at School programming

Projects * Responsible for the statistical analysis and reporting of the World Tour and Banff on Demand.

• Contributes valuable information and statistics required for Board of Governors and grant reporting.
• Prepares annual World Tour report with collected data from post-event reports.
• Plans and coordinates all aspects of World Tour and conference screenings at Banff Centre.
• Explores other potential revenue generating activities for Mountain Culture, such as merchandise sales.

Administrative Duties

• Maintains accurate records management systems in alignment with the standards and procedures required by Mountain Culture and Banff Centre.
• Coordinates the annual World Tour review process. Creates, distributes, and reconciles evaluation and feedback information from internal departments and external partners.
• Provides training on World Tour process and Banff Centre procedures to new Event Specialists and other program-related staff positions.
• Monitors World Tour websites for accuracy and brand compliance.
• Works with Manager of Strategic Sponsorships and Sponsorship & Communications Officer as the World Tour and Banff on Demand liaison for sponsorship fulfillment.
• Leads online programs from international tour hosts on Banff on Demand platform.

Financial Duties

• Works with Festival Manager on monthly financial reporting for Banff on Demand platform.
• Works with Event Specialists to follow up with tour hosts regarding past due payments as necessary.
• Contributes to budget conversations regarding revenue goals for the World Tour and Banff on Demand.
• Assists with invoicing and reporting for International World Tour Host/Banff on Demand.

Qualifications and Educational Requirements

• This position requires a college or university degree in a related field in addition to a minimum of 3 years of experience working in festival or event planning
• Extensive knowledge and experience in marketing, business planning and digital communications.
• Project management experience with the ability to effectively manage multiple projects
• Efficient organizational and time management skills with appropriate attention to detail
• Able to identify and act on opportunities without prompting, and complete assignments without direct supervision
• Financial reporting and budget experience
• Proficient with Microsoft Office, Smartsheet and project management tools such as Basecamp, Slack and OneDrive Competent working with custom software programs and using internet and web-based communication methods, adept at new technologies, software applications, and digital platforms
• Advanced communication skills
• Advanced editing abilities will be considered an asset
• Must be able to work effectively under pressure and is adaptable to changing priorities
• Able to identify and solve problems in order to create cost effective solutions by using strong analytical skills and inquisitiveness.

• Knowledge and understanding of the outdoor and film industry in which the Mountain Culture department operates is a requirement

Employment Terms and

• In accordance with CUPE 4318, this is a unionized, salaried support staff position, subject to a 6 month probation period.
• The annual salary for this position is between $61,464.00 and $64,521.60, depending on experience, based on working 40 hours per week.
