The Business Control Testing Manager is an important role within the Second Line of Defence Risk team. The role is responsible for providing independent testing regarding the adequacy, effectiveness, and sustainability of control processes. This individual will support the CRO in maturing the control testing program and methodology, including delivering training and implementing standards. They will also execute independent testing on key controls within the business and provide reporting to Senior Management. They will be a key member of the Canadian Risk Team to provide output, analysis, and insight into the control environment.

Some of your key responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting the CRO with the development of the annual test planning strategy
  • Executing independent control testing plans on a cyclical basis (regular control testing to provide independent insight into the existence, adequacy and effectiveness of controls in the business - directive, preventative, detective, manual and automated).
  • Analysing results and ensuring sound conclusions - analysis of all results to provide pass and fail report and then link these performance results to support the Second Line opinions of the control environment, which in turn supports the second line of defence independent assessment of risk;
  • Engaging the business relative to the findings - work with control and risk owners to ensure that appropriate findings are raised in the GRC tool.
  • Supporting the development of action plans - Providing advice and guidance to the business on appropriate mitigation plans to strengthen the control environment
  • Supporting the development and delivery of a final report to executive management.
  • Overseeing the completion of the remediation plans associated with control testing results.

  • Experience working in the financial industry and knowledge of business controls within a financial services firm across all functions - Operations, Front Office, Technology, Information Security, Compliance, Finance and/or Trust Services
  • In-depth understanding of different types of control placements- detective, preventative and directive, as well as an understanding of manual and automated controls
  • Independently create and execute a control testing programme
  • Form testing strategy and sampling approach based on types of controls within the business
  • Bring understanding of the links between risks, issues, business processes and controls
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, bilingual (French) is preferred
  • Bring you natural relationships building abilities as you will be working with multiple stakeholders in a complex business and regulatory environment
  • Well organized, be highly proficient in analysis and report writing
Qualifications
  • University degree in a related field of study
  • Industry recognised risk management or audit accreditation
  • 5+ years in risk management or in a business controls capacity for a financial services firm
